EcoPlanet Bamboo is leading the commercialization of bamboo as a sustainable, deforestation-free, climate friendly, alternative fiber for some of the world's largest industries. Our operations are expanding with carbon financed bamboo farms and reforestation projects in Nicaragua, South Africa, Ghana, Rwanda and the Philippines. Our projects apply our successful model of landscape restoration, providing a solution to three of the worlds most critical environmental problems: the need for effective solutions to mitigate global climate change; holistic restoration of the worlds most degraded landscapes; and a growing population that requires sustainable alternatives for consumer products and markets that still contribute to deforestation and deforestation driven emissions.

In addition to our bamboo projects, EcoPlanet Restoration in South Africa uses spekboom to restore the biodiverse ecosystem of the Albany thicket. We are looking for a motivated field assistant to collect GIS and GPS data for operational mapping and carryout field monitoring to support in the restoration of our 6,145 hectare De Draai Farm with spekboom.

Location: Pearston, Eastern Cape

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Collect GIS and GPS data across the farm, including data for reforestation plans as well as tracking progress of field activities.
• Report on data and manage datasets.
• Carryout weekly field monitoring data collection and reporting.
• Perform other tasks requested by the project.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Completed or working towards completing a Bachelors Degree or Diploma in Environmental Science/ Geography and or GIS
• Ability to be in the field rain or shine and to walk long distances as required
• Experience using GPS and / or data collection devices
• Willingness to learn as they work
• Valid drivers license & motorcycle license
• Off road driving experience
