Job Summary The Valuation Risk Manager is responsible for overseeing the valuation risk management activities of the home loans risk department. The main duties of this role include:

  • Developing and implementing valuation policies, procedures and standards for home loans products and portfolios
  • Monitoring and reporting on valuation risk exposures, performance and compliance
  • Conducting periodic reviews and validations of valuation models, methodologies and assumptions
  • Providing guidance and support to valuation analysts and other stakeholders on valuation issues and best practices
  • Collaborating with internal and external auditors, regulators and other risk functions on valuation matters




Accountability: Valuation risk management
  • Act as the custodian of collateral risk, ensuring the security and accuracy of all collateral-related processes.
  • Develop and implement frameworks, policies, and strategies related to collateral risk management.
  • Optimize the valuation platform for efficient and accurate property valuations.
  • Take ownership of valuation models and ensure their accuracy and relevance.
  • Develop and enforce valuation rules to maintain consistency and integrity in the valuation process.
  • Provide input from a collateral risk perspective in new development approvals, coordinating with policy, legal, compliance, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Contribute to achieving overall risk management objectives while supporting organizational growth initiatives.


Accountability: Stakeholder and Relationship Management
  • Provide guidance and support to operational teams in matters related to property valuations and risk
  • Address and resolve disputes related to out-of-policy valuation rules, which include replacement value disputes.
  • Manage relationships with valuation suppliers and ensure compliance with standards.
  • Represent Absa at industry forums to engage with stakeholders and stay informed about industry trends.

  • Builds and sustains a culture that aligns to the Home Loans Risk aspirational colleague experience
  • Ensure delivery of business goals by aligning Performance Development (PD) Plans of direct reports to the business goals.
  • Instil a performance development culture through directing the PD process and adhering to the PD calendar.
  • Ensure delivery of business goals by managing and developing colleagues on a project-by-project basis to deliver on the desired business goals.


Accountability: Control
  • Oversee general quality assurance processes and offer guidance on escalated valuation matters.
  • Effectively manage costs related to valuation processes.


Education and experience required
  • SACPVP accredited degrees or certificates.
  • Registered as a Professional or Professional Associate Valuer without any restrictions relating to Mortgage Bond and security valuations.


Knowledge and skills:
  • Adaptability: Adapting to changes in industry trends and staying informed about developments through industry forums.
  • Problem Solving: Addressing and resolving disputes. Providing guidance and support to operational teams in matters related to property valuations and risk.
  • Analytical thinking: Ability to analyze complex valuation and risk-related issues.
  • Decision making: Capability to make informed decisions in line with organizational goals.
  • Strategic vision: Understanding of the broader organizational strategy and how property risk management contributes to it.
  • Continuous learning: Willingness to stay updated on industry trends and regulatory changes.


Competencies:
  • A qualified valuer capable of performing valuations for all property types related to mortgage bonds or security valuations.
  • Understanding of municipal bylaws and property-related legislation.


Education
Bachelor`s Degrees and Advanced Diplomas: Business, Commerce and Management Studies (Required)
