Role Overview
A leading mining house in the Northern Cape is seeking a highly experienced Manager: HOD Engineering to lead and coordinate all engineering activities within an assigned plant/section. The role carries full legal accountability in terms of statutory mining requirements and provides strategic leadership across engineering, projects, assets, and compliance.
Key Performance Areas
The successful incumbent will be responsible for, but not limited to:
Overall management and coordination of engineering activities
Legal compliance and statutory accountability (Mining legislation)
Engineering organisational structure and contractor management
Engineering workshop and infrastructure management
Asset management and infrastructure maintenance
Engineering processes, systems, and optimisation initiatives
Budget management, cost control, capital projects, and forecasting
Project management and execution
Risk management and SHERQ compliance
Strategic leadership, stakeholder engagement, and customer relations
Continuous improvement and investigation of engineering challenges
Qualifications
Diploma or Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
Government Certificate of Competence (Mines & Works) - Engineering
Legal Appointment: 7.2 or 2.13.1
Postgraduate qualification (MBA, MSc, MDP or similar) - Advantageous
Qualification in Middle Management or equivalent
Experience
Minimum 10 years' operational engineering experience in a mining and plant environment (appointed Section Engineer)
Minimum 5 years' project management experience Advantageous
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
Advanced MS Office proficiency
Strong leadership and proven people management capability
Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams
Advanced planning, organising, and implementation skills
Sound project, budget, and cost management expertise
Strong technical insight with experience in heavy mining equipment maintenance
Excellent stakeholder and contractor relationship management
Strong understanding of mining legislation and ISO standards
Systems thinking, financial and business acumen
High ethical standards and ability to work under pressure
Other Requirements
Medically fit for mining environment
Valid C1 Driver's Licence
