JOB DESCRIPTION
The role of the Reinsurance Claims and Contract Wording Manager is to:
Oversee and manage the processing, validation and ultimate recovery of reinsurance claims received from the various Santam Business Units.
Ensure that reinsurance claims recoveries are handled efficiently, accurately and in accordance with the various reinsurance treaty coverages.
Review and assess the Santam Group reinsurance treaty coverages.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
Reinsurance Treaty wordings review. Review and assess reinsurance treaty coverage for +/- 50 reinsurance treaty wordings
Review direct policy wording together with the various Business Units. Review direct policy wordings to ensure alignment with applicable treaty coverages.
Review of broker Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Review broker SLAs in collaboration with Group Legal and Compliance Offices to ensure that these agreements accurately reflect the trading relationship between Santam and contracted reinsurance brokers.
Reviewing endorsements, special acceptances, and subjectivities together with the various Business Units. Manage changes to treaty wordings, special acceptances, and reinsurer subjectivities such that none of these have a detrimental effect to Santam's reinsurance coverage
Market intelligence. Analyse and communicate trends in local and international (re)insurance law
Claims framework. Draft and drive claims recovery philosophy framework which will include mandates and thresholds for claims handling and settlement processes
Claims processing. Review and assess reinsurance claims received from business units, ensuring accuracy and completeness of documentation.
Investigation. Conduct thorough investigations into complex or disputed claims, gathering relevant information and collaborating with internal teams and external parties as necessary.
Recoveries. Negotiate reinsurance claims recoveries with reinsurers/ reinsurance brokers.
Documentation. Maintain accurate and up to date claims files, including all correspondence, reports and supporting documentation.
Reporting. Prepare regular reports on claims activity, including status updates, trends and financial analysis for management and other stakeholders (as the case may be).
Stakeholder engagement. Build and maintain solid relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Process optimisation. Identify process improvements to continuously optimise operational deliverables.
What will make you successful in this role?
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Requirements:
o Bachelor's degree in commerce or related field (Law degree advantageous)
o At least 5 years reinsurance claims experience within a leadership role
o At least 3 years of in-depth experience in reinsurance contract wording
o Professional qualification in (re)insurance (for example, FCII, FIISA)
