The Safety, Health & Environment team will support a step change in business performance by developing the organisation's capability to manage risks and exploit opportunities in Safety, Health and Environment.



The Role

We are seeking a Manager Behavioural Safety who will apply expertise and lead the organisation in human behaviour understanding, thinking, culture and related topics (human factors) to improve AA's performance in Safety and the elimination of human error- and human behaviour-related incidents. Install and support best industry practises in the area of human behaviours and associated systems.

Key role requirements:

  • Identify and prioritise key human factors required to successfully implement AA safety standards and processes.
  • Coordinate knowledge sharing skills across the business and assist with CoE
  • Identify and analyse opportunities to develop best practices, systems and processes to mitigate the risk of human error-related incidents.
  • Collaborate with management and support function teams to develop a human error analysis framework to understand proficiency gaps within the discipline.
  • Analyse human factors leadership and management capability in business and advise business on any required interventions.
  • Manage the Behavioural Safety team and lead the development of human behavioural programmes to meet the needs of the operating businesses, instilling sustainable cultural change in doing things the right safe way.
Qualifications

Formal Qualifications
  • An undergraduate qualification (Bachelors / Honors degree or equivalent) in psychology, behavioural sciences or other relevant discipline.
  • Must be a registered Industrial Psychologist in relevant jurisdiction.
  • Advantageous - A postgraduate qualification (Masters / Doctoral degree or equivalent) in psychology, behavioural sciences or other relevant discipline
Role-specific knowledge/Requirements
  • Proven experience as a Human Factors Professional or Industrial Psychologist.
  • Practical experience in the following areas: Application of systems thinking and systems engineering, application of behavioural and cognitive sciences to safety, Human Factors in incident investigations, procedure writing and management, task analysis, ergonomics and design, executive coaching, group facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated success in applying psychological principles in a mining safety context
  • A demonstrated thought leader in the understanding and application of human factors in an integrated SHE management framework
  • Demonstrated experience in a senior people leadership role within a technical environment, including the coordination of knowledge sharing across disciplines, managing workload and reviewing the work of others to ensure consistency with task requirements
  • Specialist knowledge of behavioural safety and human factors associated processes and systems
  • Knowledge of current global human factors and behavioural safety research status and direction
  • Demonstrated understanding of technical aspects across multiple safety work streams and the mining value chain
  • Knowledge of safety policies, procedures and consistently demonstrating required behaviours and championing safety values
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of behavioural safety and familiarity with the ABC model for influencing behaviour
  • Ability to lead Group wide initiatives and communicate effectively at all levels of work across the Group.
  • Ability to:
  • Identify and develop best practices, systems and processes to mitigate the risk of human error-related incidents and advise the business on same
  • Integrate a multidisciplinary approach to the behavioural safety strategy.
  • Engage and communicate effectively across multicultural work forces and diverse operating environments.
