Job Description


To apply professional zoological science principles pertaining to the field of Ichthyology and controls specialised procedures and processes.
Key Responsibility Areas

  • Preparing and submitting cost estimates for inclusion in the budgetary provisioning taking into account trends and/or the extent of advisory and pending project related interventions.
  • Conducting high impact and complex assessments of the water quality requirements from a habitat perspective and introducing changes and proven scientific concepts that can improves breeding.
  • Assessing the experimental processes and studies required to establish the viability of using specific practices in the harvesting certain fish species.
  • Preparing proposals for complex and complete forms of interventions related to aquaculture and providing clarification to guidance to internal/ external professionals and technical personnel on the relevance and applicability based on local conditions and requirements.
  • Managing the key processes involved with the undertaking of situational studies, analysis and assessment of aquaculture practices.
  • Applying scientific knowledge to develop, test and make assessments of alternative models on the management of the fish harvesting process.
  • Developing Aquaculture Management Plans to address the immediate and future requirements of the facilities and other influential or high risk factors associated with the process.
  • Defining standards and controls to regulate the production and commercial processes related to Aquaculture.
  • Controlling the hatchery facilities situated in various localities with various species and breeding methods.
  • Training and developing knowledge of production systems using practical and theoretical methods and outlining key specifications in relation to fish farming and management.
  • Collecting and making available factual information and/or conducting the necessary investigation into enquiries to support professional personnel with addressing concerns on project implementation and delivery from the general public, councillors, government departments, etc.
  • Preparing productivity and performance reports referring to statistical data and qualitative information related to the functional initiatives for submission to the immediate superior.

Essential Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Ichthyology (NQF level 8).
  • Valid motor vehicle driving license.
  • 4 Years relevant experience.
  • Computer Literacy.
Preferred Requirements
  • Masters in Science in Ichthyology. (NQF level 9).
  • 6 Years relevant experience.
