Feltex is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to assist with preventative and corrective maintenance and repairs on plant and equipment in safe and efficient manner. This role involves assisting with routine inspections, performing basic repairs, maintaining tools and work areas, and supporting preventative maintenance schedules. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor and ensures that all maintenance activities are carried out safely and in compliance with company standards and procedures.

Minimum Requirements

Grade 12 / Matric Minimum of 2 years' experience in a Manufacturing or Automotive Industry. Recognised technical or mechanical qualification (advantageous).

Duties & Responsibilities

Process control:

Transport tools, equipment and spares to the work site Isolate equipment perform lockouts and make the work area safe.

Mechanical Maintenance:

Perform routine preventative maintenance Align machines and equipment Operate and monitor a drilling machine to produce simple components Operate and monitor a surface grinding tools/machines to produce simple components Perform basic and MIG/TIG welding / joining of metal(s) Grind tools and drill bits

Fabrication:

Form and shape sheet metal using hand- or power operated tools / machinery Mechanically, cut, drill and punch fabrication materials Cut material using the oxy-fuel gas cutting process (manual cutting) Join metals using the resistance welding process Weld workplace (oxy-acetylene welding, shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding) Remove metals using oxy-fuel and air -carbon arc gouging processes.

Material Handling:

Sling loads Operating cranes/hoist Operating and driving forklifts

General:

Carry out scheduled maintenance and production checks as per lists / requirements Assist with preventative maintenance tasks Perform production mould changes as required Ensure good housekeeping (5S) in your work area Carry out maintenance repairs where authorised and required Ensure that all required assistance is generated via job requisition Ensure that job cards and PM checks are closed off timeously Participate in continuous improvement drives * Participate in plant Gemba walks and action items from the Gemba list, where required
