Maintenance Artisan Food Industry (1 2 Contract Role)

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Artisan to join our client's team in Killarney Gardens, Cape Town, on a short-term contract. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining and repairing equipment, conducting fault-finding, and ensuring the smooth operation of machinery and infrastructure within the facility.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform fault-finding and ensure all equipment remains operational.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance checks on machinery and infrastructure.
  • Perform electrical and mechanical maintenance and fault reporting.
  • Inspect facility equipment regularly and respond to emergency breakdowns (electrical, refrigeration, mechanical).
  • Support the Maintenance Manager in responding to internal customer demands.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Complete job cards accurately and ensure sign-off by internal customers.
  • Store spares securely and maintain proper inventory records.
  • Communicate with production teams regarding machinery breakdowns and functionality.
  • Report all defects and damages to the Maintenance Manager in a timely manner.
  • Assist with building repairs, renovations, plastering, drywall fixing, and painting.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance work performed.
  • Keep the workshop clean and organized at all times.
  • Participate in installations and commissioning activities.
  • Perform any additional duties as required.
Required Competencies:
  • Strong electrical and mechanical knowledge.
  • Experience with PLC fault-finding, motors, and drives.
  • Familiarity with tools, materials, and spare parts management.
  • Basic numeracy and computer literacy.
  • Good administrative, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Professional work ethic, proactive approach, and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a team and under pressure.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Grade 12/NQF Level 3/N2-N4 qualification.
  • Qualified Millwright or Electrician with mechanical expertise.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment (preferably packaging or food & beverage industry).
  • Own vehicle and valid driver's license.
  • Strong punctuality and attendance record.
