Logistics Manager Supply Chain
Durban - KwaZulu Natal - South Africa

Our client, a multinational FMCG company in South Africa based in Umhlanga, has a permanent position available for a Logistics Manager to head the logistics strategy & operations across Sea/Air Freight, Warehousing, Transportation Inbound/Outbound & Reverse Logistics. You will lead the logistics function to ensure execution of related operational processes, to deliver the relevant Key Performance Indicator of the Management Unit of Southern Africa, continuously improving the underlying processes & building & establishing collaboration & exchange with al related functions. The portfolio entails Inbound sea, land & air transport, warehousing, outbound transport & reverse logistics.

Requirements:

  • University or similar degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Industrial Engineering or similar
  • 8 years' experience, ideally in FMCG, ideally in Logistics, Customer Service, and/or Logistics related functions
  • Experience in leading & developing teams
  • Demonstrated ability to manage logistics service providers
  • A "can do" attitude
  • Ability to drive a culture of continuous improvement
  • Resilience
  • Good ability to communicate with a wide range of personalities
  • Willingness to travel in Africa
Key Performance Areas:

Strategy:
  • Develop & implement local Logistics Strategy (Roadmap) & Network Footprint across sea/air freight, warehousing, transportation inbound & outbound, & reverse logistics
  • Fully responsible for the management of freight related costs impacting "cost of product", warehouse, & transport costs driving "direct cost of sales", OTIF delivery of stock both inbound & outbound impacting "service level" to customers & supporting achievement "forecast accuracy"
  • Lead strategy to support with the emergence of channels such as e-commerce
  • Co-lead (with procurement) all Logistics 3PL indirect procurement spend tenders as a demand owner offering operational & commercial expertise to deliver all locally & globally steered tenders including supplier negotiations & contractual agreements
Key Performance Indicators:
  • Deliver the targets of the Management Unit for the logistics related Key Performance Indicators service level, logistics costs & logistics related savings
  • Continuously improve all logistics related processes & ensure implementation of international best practices
  • Through 3PL / LSP management, ensure execution of operational logistics & all related processes - mainly inbound sea, land & air transport from suppliers, warehousing, outbound transport to customers & subcontractors, as well as reverse logistics
Reverse Logistics / Claims:
  • Manage & control claims processes in conjunction with the 3PL, finance, & customers
  • Drive all key stakeholders to ensure continuous improvement of claims process across the business & with customers
Direct Cost of Selling & Optimization:
  • Manage 3PLs with a substantial spend per annum across Sea/Air freight, warehousing, transportation inbound & outbound, & reverse logistics categories
  • Accountable for all warehousing & transport costs
  • Continuous drive to reduce costs through optimization
People Management:
  • Lead a team of currently 4 direct reports & 1 LSP implant
  • Continuously improve the teams' employee engagement
  • Ensure skillsets remain relevant to new logistics development
Continuous Improvement:
  • Identify & drive continuous improvement initiatives with 3PLs to achieve the highest level of efficiencies in the logistics operations
  • Lead & implement continuous improvement initiatives with 3PLs as well as internally with other functions / departments
Stakeholder Management:
  • Internal engagement between Supply Chain functions & other functions such as Sales to drive service level & support growth
  • Drive supply chain collaboration with customers to improve service level, generate efficiencies, improve inbound, warehousing, & outbound processes which lead to cost savings & drive sales growth
