Legal Hero invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced Legal Professionals to join its Bellville-based team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing professional legal advice and support to Legal Hero policyholders, with a strong focus on mediation, negotiation, and the amicable resolution of legal matters.
The role requires a high level of professionalism, sound legal knowledge, strong drafting skills, and the ability to engage effectively with policyholders across various areas of law.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
LLB degree
(admission as an attorney or advocate will be advantageous);
Demonstrated high level of legal knowledge;
Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing at least two official African languages (advantageous);
Strong computer literacy;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
Proven ability to function effectively within a team environment;
Strong initiative, professionalism, and a results-driven mindset;
Excellent legal drafting skills.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties outlined below are not exhaustive and may be amended in line with operational requirements.
Obtaining comprehensive and accurate instructions from policyholders through personal consultations, telephonic engagements, and written correspondence;
Providing immediate and appropriate legal and product-related advice upon receipt of instructions;
Managing and attending to criminal, civil, family, labour, and commercial legal matters;
Opening and drafting new matters on the legal system, including the identification of prescription periods, time bars, and applicable dies dates;
Drafting legal documentation, including but not limited to warning letters, letters of demand, lease agreements, contracts, wills, referral letters, and general correspondence;
Responding to legal notices and correspondence (including summonses and notices to vacate) on behalf of policyholders in accordance with internal policies and procedures;
Maintaining accurate, complete, and up-to-date legal files in compliance with departmental and organisational requirements;
Providing policyholders with regular progress updates and feedback on pending matters, at least twice monthly or as dictated by the nature of the matter;
Providing verbal and written legal opinions and interpretations in a clear and accessible manner;
Complying with management instructions issued via file notes, email, or verbal communication;
Drafting representations, appeals, settlement agreements, and debt repayment arrangements;
Conducting informal mediation to facilitate amicable dispute resolution;
Assessing the merits of legal matters for advisory purposes and to determine eligibility for litigation cover;
Managing litigation claims in collaboration with the Head of Department and in accordance with prescribed guidelines;
Coordinating referrals and instructions to panel attorneys where applicable;
Applying rejection and exclusion procedures in line with the guidelines;
Ensuring effective administration of assigned caseloads, including diarising and follow-ups;
Attending to client callbacks and correspondence timeously;
Ensuring strict adherence to all departmental and company policies, procedures, and service standards.
