Provide comprehensive legal advice and support on a wide range of matters related to renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, and storage.
Draft, review, and negotiate various commercial agreements, such as power purchase agreements (PPAs), engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracts, operation and maintenance (O&M) agreements, and financing documents.
Advise on regulatory compliance, licensing, and permitting requirements for renewable energy projects in South Africa.
Manage and mitigate legal risks associated with project development, financing, construction, and operation.
Conduct legal due diligence for potential acquisitions and investments in the renewable energy space.
Liaise with external legal counsel, government authorities, and other stakeholders.
Stay abreast of developments in renewable energy law, policy, and industry trends.
Qualifications and Experience:
Admitted Attorney or Advocate of the High Court of South Africa.
Minimum of 2 years of post-admission experience as a legal counsel or in a reputable law firm, with a demonstrable focus on renewable energy projects.
In-depth knowledge of South African energy law, environmental law, and relevant regulatory frameworks (e.g., NERSA, IPP Procurement Programme).
Proven experience in drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts within the energy sector.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation abilities.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a demanding environment.
Proficiency in English; knowledge of other South African official languages is an advantage.
