Introduction
Are you a qualified and experienced Legal Appointee (2.9.2) with a strong background in coal mining operations? Our client, a prominent mining company, is seeking a committed and safety-driven professional to take on a critical statutory role in line with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA).
Key Responsibilities:
Fulfil legal responsibilities in accordance with Section 2.9.2 of the MHSA
Oversee compliance with all applicable health, safety, and environmental legislation
Supervise operational activities in your appointed area, ensuring safe coal production
Conduct risk assessments, audits, inspections, and safety investigations
Enforce mine standards, Codes of Practice, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Drive a culture of safety, performance, and legal accountability across your team
Collaborate with engineering, safety, and production teams to align operations with statutory and company requirements
Submit legal and operational reports as required
Minimum Requirements:
Blasting Certificate of Competency (Coal) - Essential
Mine Overseer Certificate of Competency - Essential
Grade 12 / NQF Level 4
5-8 years' experience in coal mining, including supervisory/legal appointee roles
Excellent understanding of MHSA, DMR compliance, and mining regulations
Proven track record in managing production, safety, and people
Strong leadership and communication skills
Valid driver's license
