Our client is seeking a highly experienced and adept Legal Advisor to provide comprehensive legal support across a diverse range of non-banking financial services operations. This role is crucial for ensuring legal compliance, mitigating risks, and supporting strategic business initiatives within the investment sector. You will play a pivotal role in advising on critical legal matters, drafting essential documentation, and representing the organization in various legal capacities.
Duties
Legal Advisory and Support:
o Provide expert legal support to various business units within the group, including those focused on wealth management, asset management, collective investment schemes, long-term insurance, and treasury solutions.
o Offer dedicated legal assistance to the Compliance department.
o Advise on legal considerations pertaining to new business ventures and assist with the legal aspects of their implementation.
o Provide guidance on compliance with all relevant financial services legislation.
o Offer proactive advice to business units regarding pertinent legal developments.
o Issue formal opinions on legal matters relevant to the organization's operations.
Documentation and Representation:
o Draft and vet a wide array of contracts, encompassing both financial services-specific agreements and general commercial contracts.
o Draft and vet client documentation and correspondence to ensure legal accuracy and clarity.
o Liaise effectively with external legal service providers.
o Represent group companies in negotiations of contractual provisions with external suppliers.
o Represent the organization at industry associations (e.g., ASISA equivalent), as required, and contribute to commentary on behalf of the organization, or directly to regulatory bodies, regarding proposed regulatory changes.
Requirements
Education:
o Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree is essential.
o Admitted attorney is required.
Experience:
o A minimum of 8 years' post-qualification legal experience.
o At least 6 years of this experience must be as a legal advisor within the non-banking financial services sector.
Computer Skills:
o Proficiency in standard office productivity suites (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook) and document management software (e.g., Adobe).
