Job Purpose
The successful candidate will teach statistics and related subjects up to at least NQF level 7, including in Engineering qualifications. The successful candidate will also contribute to curriculum development (especially at postgraduate level), and will supervise undergraduate and postgraduate Mathematical Sciences students for their exit-level projects. Furthermore, the successful candidate will provide support to the Department in pursuit of its objectives in learning and teaching, research, Work Integrated Learning, and community engagement.


Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Masters (NQF level 9) qualification in Statistics, Data Science, or equivalent. Additionally, an NQF level 7, or 8 qualification (Advanced Diploma, Bachelors Degree, Postgraduate Diploma, or Bachelor Honours Degree) in Statistics, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field Advanced proficiency is required in at least one of the statistics software or languages used in the Department, namely, R or SAS At least two years' relevant full-time working experience, of which at least one year must be in a lecturing role at a higher education institution

Industry experience in Statistics or Data Science would be advantageous Experience teaching or working in an Engineering context would be advantageous Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
The successful candidate will be expected to perform in the following areas:


Teach statistics and related subjects up to at least NQF level 7, including in Engineering qualifications Develop reusable learning and teaching materials for the subjects being taught (e.g., lecture notes, tutorials, online content) Perform appropriate academic and administrative duties in the Department Participate in curriculum development, particularly at postgraduate level Supervise and assess undergraduate and postgraduate Mathematical Sciences students for their exit-level projects Participate in research and produce DHET-accredited publications at a rate of at least 0.5 publication units per year Participate in the Quality Assurance activities of the Department Assist with marketing and student recruitment activities Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Head of Department Competencies
Strong oral and written communication skills Organisational, planning, and time management skills General computer skills (MS Office, Internet, email, AI prompts) Adaptability and willingness to innovate Strong student focus Administrative skills and attention to detail Research and academic writing skills Proficiency in English
