The Department of Mathematics, Science and Technology Education (MSTEd) is an academic department within the Faculty of Education. The core functions of the department are teaching, training and research. MSTEd is situated on the Auckland Park (APK) Campus in Auckland Park, Johannesburg.
The Centre for Advanced Learning Technologies in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (CALTSTEAM) that resides within the department undertakes cutting-edge research in the application of advanced learning technologies that include virtual reality, augmented reality, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and robotics and coding in the context of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) education. The centre plays a pivotal role in enhancing UJ's position as a leader in academic thought and research in the educational aspects of 4IR. The centre is looking to appoint a vibrant and dynamic scholar with high-end knowledge and skills in the area of advanced learning technologies in STEAM.
CALTSTEAM invites applications for the post of Lecturer. This post is supported by the New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP). nGAP is a Department of Higher Education and Training nationally funded programme that involves recruiting a new cohort of young academics. The programme is transformative in nature, and priority is given to designated candidates. Candidates must be 40 years or younger. The programme enables nGAP appointments to benefit from teaching and research development opportunities and requires the incumbent to register for their PhD or post-doctoral studies
Responsibilities:
In line with the Department of Higher Education and Training's nGAP, the Faculty of Education at the University of Johannesburg is seeking to make an appointment of a lecturer at the CALTSTEAM research centre in MSTEd. We are seeking an exceptionally motivated, qualified and ambitious aspirant South African academic to contribute to and expand the centre's research profile.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute meaningfully to existing research projects of the centre, and to conceptualise and lead new projects in advanced learning technologies in the context of STEAM education. The appointment also includes administrative duties, teaching in undergraduate and postgraduate modules, and the supervision of postgraduate students.
