Job Description

  • The ability to teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and produce prospective graduates in the fields of Civil Engineering & Geomatics.
  • Contribute to academic initiatives undertaken by the department to enhance learning according to industry and in the department's teaching & learning goals.
  • Incorporate teaching & learning and research & innovation outcomes into an academic project.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering. All base qualifications must be in Civil Engineering
  • At least 2 years relevant teaching experience in higher education and/or 2 years industrial experience in the Civil Engineering Industry.
  • Must be registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) or register within 12 months of employment.

Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
  • Lecturing Civil Engineering subjects in the Civil Engineering Programme
  • Develop, contribute and produce and generate new knowledge through research outputs.
  • Develop innovative teaching and learning materials.
  • Contribute to curriculum and programme development.
  • Augment departmental research
  • Promote community participation, linkages, outreach and industry liaison
  • Supervise and mentor students.
  • Assessment and academic development
  • Perform academic administrative duties.
  • Assist with departmental administration.
  • Participate in the Quality Assurance activities of the Department.
  • Ensure good quality assurance practice
