Job Purpose
The ability to teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and produce prospective graduates in the fields of Civil Engineering & Geomatics. Contribute to academic initiatives undertaken by the department to enhance learning according to industry and in the department's teaching & learning goals. Incorporate teaching & learning and research & innovation outcomes into an academic project. Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Master's Degree in Civil Engineering. All base qualifications must be in Civil Engineering At least 2 years relevant teaching experience in higher education and/or 2 years industrial experience in the Civil Engineering Industry. Must be registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) or register within 12 months of employment. Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
Lecturing Civil Engineering subjects in the Civil Engineering Programme Develop, contribute and produce and generate new knowledge through research outputs. Develop innovative teaching and learning materials. Contribute to curriculum and programme development. Augment departmental research Promote community participation, linkages, outreach and industry liaison Supervise and mentor students. Assessment and academic development Perform academic administrative duties. Assist with departmental administration. Participate in the Quality Assurance activities of the Department. Ensure good quality assurance practice Competencies
Demonstrate lecturing ability. Proficiency in English (written and spoken) Computer literacy in MS Office with good organizational and time management skills Aptitude for continuous learning Good communication and presentation skills Ability to work independently Knowledge of continuous evaluation and integrated assessment Strong learner focus Adaptability Interpersonal skills Coaching and mentoring skills Team player General Information
