Duties and responsibilities:

  • Manage the fermentation unit and cheesery on the Paradys experimental farm.
  • Manage the innovation park projects on the Paradys experimental farm, as well as the development of greenhouses and laboratories on the farm.
  • Develop of a strategic plan/s that complement the xe2x80x9cRe-imagining project of the South Campusxe2x80x9d including entrepreneurial activities.
  • Secure industry involvement on the Paradys experimental farm.
  • Liaise with the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences on entrepreneurship for students.
  • Responsible for research of Novalogix product development.
  • Prepare bids for funding for the Paradys farm research projects.
  • Support the development of an entrepreneurship-hub .
  • Participate in community engagement projects.
  • Serve on committees relevant to the departments and partake in departmental activities.
  • Perform general administration duties as applicable at university level.
  • Provide formal teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate students in practical Agriculture Modules.
  • Lecture undergraduate and postgraduate modules and develop curriculum and module materials where relevant or required, specifically related to fermentation and brewing practices. Develop short courses in this context.
  • Write research proposals, academic papers and other publications.
  • Attend and speak at conferences and seminars.
Inherent requirements:
  • PhD in Microbiology/Microbial Biotechnology on NQF Level 10.
  • Five years' experience in fermentation to support a business venture.
  • Five years' experience in entrepreneurship.
  • Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
  • Proven experience of supervising masters and doctoral students.
  • Evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication in accredited journals.
  • A good academic record.
Recommendations:
  • Extensive knowledge on all elements related to economic and product packaging/branding.
  • Knowledge of strategy management and implementation of all the elements and complexities of the food system.
  • Experience in using agricultural productivity and food production.
  • Knowledge of the practical use of agricultural products for agricultural innovation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Desire and ability to teach and advise university students, up to master's degree level, as well as farming economic dynamics and agricultural farm management.
  • Teaching experience.
  • Proven experience in the use of Blackboard and PeopleSoft.
