The Language Education Department seeks to advance the Faculty of Education's commitment to research-driven service to the basic education (school) sector via the promotion of multilingual, dialogical and decolonising approaches to language teacher education.


The Department invites applications for the post of

Lecturer in Language Education

with respect to

Afrikaans and English

.


The successful candidate will be required to contribute to and strengthen the following academic activities:


Facilitate learning and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, particularly in teaching Afrikaans and English Language and Literacy in our Foundation Phase programme Conduct research and publish in the field of language education Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate supervision Undertake curriculum development and assessment Community engagement and outreach Administration and serving on institutional committees Engage in national and international networks

Minimum Requirements



A Master's qualification in Language Education Advanced proficiency in Afrikaans and English teaching, both spoken and written Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning and teaching in Afrikaans and English for Foundation Phase teacher development in Higher Education At least a successful research publication of a book chapter/paper in a conference proceeding

The following would be added advantages and/or recommendations:




A PhD qualification in Language Education Evidence of scholarly/research activity in Language Education

Competencies required:




Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Afrikaans and English Presentation and facilitation skills Adaptability and the ability to operate in a diverse environment Student-focused approach Coaching and mentoring skills Planning and organising skills Computer literacy and e-learning skills Technical professional knowledge and skills in the discipline and in the core strategic areas, namely learning and teaching, research and scholarship, community engagement as well as professional leadership
