The Learner Wellbeing Support Assistant will provide support to the Social Worker in implementing learner wellbeing initiatives, interventions, and programmes. The role is designed to enhance psychosocial support services offered to learners and to create a nurturing environment that promotes student success, resilience, and holistic development.
Responsibilities
Assist the Social Worker with day-to-day learner wellbeing interventions and case management.
Conduct check-ins with learners under supervision, and escalate concerns where necessary.
Provide support in
crisis intervention cases
Support with administrative duties including filing, scheduling, and maintaining learner wellbeing records.
Facilitate and co-facilitate psychoeducational programmes and workshops
aimed at promoting mental health awareness, life skills, and resilience.
Assist in planning and facilitating wellbeing awareness campaigns, workshops, and group sessions.
Liaise with facilitators and staff regarding learner wellbeing matters when delegated.
Provide follow-up support to learners referred for psychosocial or academic interventions.
Assist in compiling reports for learner wellbeing cases, referrals, and interventions.
Help coordinate external referrals for learners needing specialised services.
Ensure confidentiality and ethical conduct in all learner wellbeing engagements.
Support wellness-related projects, events, and initiatives at the College.
Qualifications and Requirements
A relevant qualification in Auxiliary Social Worker, Social Work, Social Science, Psychology, Counselling, or related field (NQF Level 5/6 or higher). Recent graduates are strongly encouraged to apply.
Candidate must be registered with the relevant council SACSSP, HPCSA, etc
Must be a YES Programme eligible candidate (unemployed youth, aged 18-35, meeting YES criteria).
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to engage with learners from diverse backgrounds with empathy and professionalism.
Good organisational and administrative skills.
Computer literacy (MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate ethical practice.
