Job Description


Minimum Job Requirements:

  • B.Sc Quantity Surveying
  • Registration with the South African Council of the Quantity Surveying Profession (SACQSP) (non-negotiable) & South African Council for the Projects and Construction Management Profession (SACPCMP).
  • Min. 5 years quantity surveying and project management experience.
  • Experience working within a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment (mining/ steel)
  • Good understanding of the PMBOK principles.xc3x82
  • Supervisory experience, an advantage.
  • Exp. working with SAP, Microsoft Projects, Primavera P6 or other Project Management software an advantage.
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) with PMI (Project Management Institute) or equivalent, an added advantage.
Key Performance Areas:
Report to the Maintenance Manager:
  • Deliver the annual shutdown outcomes in a safe manner, on time, in cost budget and with agreed quality requirements by working cross-functionally between all the plants, and across all the engineering disciplines (i.e., Mechanical, Electrical, Instrument, Process).
  • Manage annual shut cost and risks (including cash flows, variance, invoices, etc.), and drive cost reduction.
  • Provide support in developing a 10-year annual shut cost view.
  • Estimate annual shut cost, align cost forecasts and adjudicate quotations by ensuring costs reflect scope & verify contractor rates with industry established norms; considering vendor inputs, site instructions, claim forecasts, tariff increases and volume increases.
  • Work with Procurement to select the best contracting strategy for each job to minimise cost and maximise productivity (within the constraints of safety, environment, cost, duration, scope, quality, risks, and available resources).
  • Verify invoices by ensuring that payment is made for actual work done when using cost re-measurable contracts.
  • Ensure that the best contractors are selected in conjunction with Project, Senior & Plant Engineers and in line with Procurement practice (ensure alignment of contractor rates between Maintenance, Annual Shut, and projects / Capex).
  • Assist with preparation of annual shut audits and cost reports per contractor (daily, weekly, monthly, close-out reports).
  • Safety, Risk, Environment & Community - Zero harm, respect the environment and community by ensuring compliance to SHEQ systems, standards, and legislative requirements for annual shuts.
  • Apply PMBOK best practices.
