Job Description

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS



Education



Bachelor's Degree in Labour Relations, Industrial Relations, Human Resource Management, Law, or a related field.

Work experience



At least 5 years of experience in Labour Relations or Industrial Relations, specifically within the public sector or similar organisational settings. Proven experience in collective bargaining, including negotiations at various forums such as sectoral bargaining councils, and dealing with matters related to terms and conditions of employment. Experience in dispute resolution, including attending conciliations, mediations, and arbitrations in a variety of industrial relations matters. Demonstrated knowledge of relevant labour laws (e.g., Labour Relations Act, Public Service Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act) and their application in collective bargaining and dispute resolution.
A valid driver's license

Technical Skills



Legal knowledge (SA labour laws & collective agreements) Expertise in collective bargaining process (from negotiation preparation to agreement implementation) Contract interpretation (interpretation & application of collective agreements)

Industry Specific Skills



Sector knowledge (industry practices, challenges & regulatory frameworks) Understanding of Council rules, procedures & practices Understanding of union dynamics (member priorities)

Soft Skills



Communication (verbal & written - articulation of bargaining position) Negotiation skills (effective representation of members interests) Problem solving Analytical thinking (analysis of labour market data, economic trends & sector-specific information) Advocacy Diplomacy & relationship management Adaptability Teamwork Ethics & integrity
