Introduction




We are looking to recruit for a permanent Key Account Manager (Exports) to work for United Pharmaceutical Distributors (UPD). The role will be based in the Lea Glen branch, and will be reporting to the Commercial Executive.

Job Objectives:




Responsible primarily for the effective and efficient management of the Export Department to maximize return on net assets and deliver key branch objectives in line with the overall business objectives.


Key Performance Areas:


Manage the day to day operations of the Export Department including inter alia operations, people and processes Ensure Export Department meets organizational, financial, operational, service and growth goals Co-ordinate with the Export Sales & Marketing teams to maximize turnover of the Division through service excellence (operations and delivery) Co-ordinating Export operations to deliver operational efficiency and service levels Cost management, including budgetary alignment and capital expenditure (CAPEX) Management of customer interface; ensuring customer satisfaction and business growth Responsible for ensuring security and loss control is in line with company guidelines & policies. Responsible for managing pharmaceutical compliance as per regulations Effectively manage and develop human resources Management of Kalahari (UPD Botswana) Branch Operations, Sales and Marketing.

Duties: Manage the day to day Export operations including inter alia operations, people and processes

Improve the operational systems, processes and policies in support of organizations mission - specifically, support better management reporting, information flow and management, business process and organizational planning. Manage and increase the effectiveness and efficiency of support services (HR, IT and Finance), through improvements in communication between support and business functions. Play a significant role in long-term planning, including an initiative geared toward operational excellence. Management of budget in co-ordination with the Head of Operations. Drive initiatives in the management team and organization that contribute to long-term operational excellence. Contribute to short and long-term organizational planning and strategy as a member of the management team Manage day to day running Export Department which includes operations, customer care, debtors, buying and sales without losing sight of the overall objectives of the company


Duties: Ensure Export Department meets organizational, financial, operational, service and growth goals

To continuously benchmark against industry best practice in order to provide market intelligence and drive recommendations to optimize operations Drive initiates to meet growth goals, improve service levels, increase cost cutting measures and operational efficiency Improve Department profitability


Duties: Co-ordinate with the Export Sales & Marketing team to maximize turnover of the branch through service excellence (operations and delivery)

Establish and maintain positive client relationships Implementing sales strategy in accordance with company objectives Promote compliance of individual Link members in accordance with the Link participation agreement (where applicable) Identifying industry trends, competitive behaviour Identifying potential business risks (overselling, underselling, product mix changes, erratic sales and overstocking) and report in order for corrective action to be taken Expedite and resolve customer complaints by investigating problems; developing solutions


Duties: Direct operations accountability co-ordinating Export operations team to deliver operational efficiency and service levels.for Kalahari (UPD Botswana Branch)

Offer assistance and monitor all operational issues and offer solutions and clarification to policies and procedures Conduct regular meetings with Operational management to increase efficiency and improve on service delivery


Duties: Cost management, including budgetary alignment and capital expenditure (CAPEX)

Responsible for the annual preparation of branch budgets and establish goals and objectives Negotiate , assess and evaluate service providers and business partners eg couriers, freight forwarding, clearing agents Measure Export performance levels weekly and provide feedback Maintain costs within budget, drive costs reductions and improve efficiency Ensure CAPEX is proportionately spent according to budget


Duties: Management of Export customer interface; ensuring customer satisfaction and business growth

Visit customers in order to build relationship and identify operational problems Expedite query resolution Analyze customers, identify areas to increase customer satisfaction


Duties: Responsible for ensuring security and loss control is in line with company guidelines and policies

Overseeing the adherence to security measures, including searching procedures (body searches, personal belongings, vehicles) access control. Ensuring that security SOP's are adhered to Overseeing the process of investigating stock losses Ensure compliance and auditing of internal procedures and external statutory requirements in order to mitigate risk


Duties: Responsible for managing pharmaceutical and quality compliance as per regulations and procedures.

Responsible for ensuring that Health & Safety guidelines are implemented and maintained.


Duties: Effectively manage and develop human resources

Interview, hire, train, manage together with H.R.department and evaluate the performance of supervisory, professional and clerical staff .Recommend increases consistent with individual performance evaluations. Conduct and oversee formal performance management process within branch Implement disciplinary action and or termination of employees through established company procedures Monthly Lekgotla meetings and regular branch performance feedback Identify training needs for key personnel, ensure effective people management and development

Minimum requirements




Minimum Education & Qualification:




A relevant business degree or equivalent


Minimum Job Related Experience:




Minimum 5 years management experience within Warehouse/ Operations, Sales or Retail environment or Export (essential)


Management of budgets (essential)


People Management (essential)
