We are looking for a creative Junior Video Editor to join our team at Maverick Studios. The ideal candidate will have experience in video editing for YouTube, social media, and TikTok, using Adobe Premiere Pro and/or DaVinci Resolve. A strong journalistic sense of storytelling is essential for this role, as you will be helping to craft compelling, engaging, and impactful narratives for a wide range of audiences.

Minimum Requirements

A qualification in journalism, video production, or a related field. Proficiency in video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro and/or DaVinci Resolve (agility in these platforms is a must). Strong storytelling skills, with the ability to communicate ideas visually and craft compelling narratives with a journalistic approach. Attention to detail and a keen eye for visual aesthetics. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Excellent communication, time-management and organisational skills. A portfolio that demonstrates your video editing skills, creativity, and storytelling ability.

Duties and Responsibilities

Edit and produce high-quality video content for YouTube, social media, and TikTok. Work closely with the creative team to conceptualise and execute video ideas that align with the Daily Maverick brand's tone and style. Collaborate with other team members, including Daily Maverick designers, to ensure that all content is consistent across different platforms. Stay up-to-date with the latest video editing software, techniques, and trends to maintain a high level of creativity and innovation. Manage video projects from start to finish, including organising footage, selecting music and sound effects, and adding visual effects and text overlays. Incorporate journalistic storytelling to create content that resonates with viewers and communicates key messages effectively. Meet project deadlines and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. * With your editor's guidance and your team's support, continuously evaluate and improve the quality of video content to increase engagement and viewership.
