The purpose of the position is to support the Department of Student Affairs' Senior Systems Analyst in ensuring that the reporting, decision making and operations are evidence-based and serve to deepen the student success and support mission and identity of the department.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Student Success Assistant will:
Ensure compliance with institutional and departmental policies and procedures on processing activities;
Evaluate processing activities and use fit for purpose tools and systems to support the process;
Design and develop user-friendly data visualizations (dashboards, charts, infographics) to effectively communicate key findings and trends;
Ensure the relevance, accuracy, accessibility, and visual quality of all reports;
Streamline and automate reports to efficiently feed into the Director and Deputy's data dashboards;
Develop, test, and implement new or enhanced tools based on emerging needs, using platforms such as Microsoft Power Platform, Flutterflow, or other suitable technologies;
Integrate feedback from stakeholders to guide continuous improvement of digital solutions and user experience;
Support the coordination of cross-functional analytics projects focused on student experience, with the aim of generating actionable insights into how students engage with and navigate departmental services;
Support the Senior Systems Analyst (SSA) in consolidating all departmental efforts and the creation of performance metrics.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Grade 12,
Two years' experience in:
working with data;
an academic environment and the development of e-learning material;
the development of online tools.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
COMPETENCIES
Broad technical knowledge and skills in development of e-learning material, data analytics and management, organisational skills, report writing skills and representing data in different formats;
Exceptional computer literacy skills;
Computer literacy in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Power Platform, Infographics, Web development;
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills;
Demonstrate solid interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills and establish and sustain good working relationships with staff, students, visitors, national and international partners and service providers;
Maintain a high level of confidentiality, integrity and professionalism;
Creatively and innovatively solve problems;
Time management and organisational skills.
ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
BSc degree in Computer Science, IT, Information Systems, Engineering (Industrial, Computer/ Software, Electrical, Electronics), Data Analytics/Science, Statistics or cognate field Relevant experience in a higher education or similar environment;
Over four years' experience in:
Experience working with Higher Education data;
Experience in developing apps and systems;
Experience in working with Power BI;
Experience in process optimisation and automation;
Certification in Power Platform tools;
A valid drivers' license.

The total remuneration package for this position will be as determined by UP remuneration policy guidelines. (These amounts include the University's contributions to standard UP benefits, namely provident fund, group life and funeral cover, but exclude contributions to medical aid, as the latter varies per employee.) UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
