Job Description


Job Purpose:

The purpose of this role is to elicit, analyse, communicate, and validate requirements for changes to business processes and information systems.

This position reports to a Specialist Business Analyst.

Key Performance Areas

Strategic Function:

  • Support the implementation of the business architectural strategies and the business unit balance score card (BSC) initiatives.
Product Management:

1. Enterprise analysis:
  • Define business needs by identifying and defining why a change to organisational systems or capabilities is required.
  • Assess the capability gaps and determine the most viable solution/approach to meet the business needs in adequate details to allow for definition of solution scope.
  • Definition of a business case to determine whether the organisation can justify the investment required to deliver a proposed solution.
  • Definition and modelling of the business architecture to reveal how the organisation is structured including demonstration of how elements such as capabilities, organization and information fit together.
2. Business analysis planning and monitoring:
  • Recommend the approach to be used to perform business analysis, with involvement of the stakeholders in the decision-making process and provide the rationale for using it.
  • Conduct stakeholder analysis through identification of stakeholders who may be affected by the proposed initiative or share common business need, appropriate stakeholders for the project or project phase and determining stakeholder influence and / or authority regarding the approval of the project deliverables.
  • Plan business analysis activities which involve determination of the activities that must be performed including the deliverables that must be produced, as well as estimation of the effort required to perform the work, and identification of the management tools required to measure the progress of those activities and deliverables.
  • Develop the business analysis communication plan which describes the proposed structure and schedule for the communications regarding business analysis activities.
  • Plan requirements management process, which is the process that will be used to approve requirements for the implementation and manage changes to the solution or requirements scope.
3. Requirements elicitation and management:
  • Conduct the elicitation activities with relevant stakeholders and ensure that all resources needed are organized and scheduled to meet the stakeholderxe2x80x99s needs/expectations.
  • Document elicitation results by recording the information provided by the stakeholders for use in the analysis.
  • Validate the stakeholder requirements and ensure understanding of the problem and stakeholder needs.
  • Manage the solution scope and the requirements to obtain and maintain consensus among key stakeholders regarding the overall solution scope and the requirements that will be implemented.
4. Requirements analysis:
  • Prioritize the business requirements by ensuring that the analysis and implementation efforts focus on the most critical requirements.
  • Organize the requirements with the purpose of creating a set of views of the requirements for the new business solution that are comprehensive, complete, consistent, and understood from all stakeholder perspectives.
  • Analyse user requirements through specification and modelling of the AS-IS and TO-BE state of the organisation using the combination of textual statements, matrices, diagrams and formal models.
  • Define assumptions and constraints by identifying factors other than the requirements that may affect which solutions are viable.
  • Verify user requirements by ensuring that the requirements specifications and models meet the necessary standard of quality to allow them to be used effectively to guide further work.
  • Validate user requirements to ensure that all requirements support the delivery of the value to the business, fulfil its goals and objectives, and meet a stakeholder need.
5. Solution assessment and validation:
  • Conduct assessment of the proposed solutions to determine how closely they meet stakeholder and solution requirements.
  • Allocate stakeholder and solution requirements among solution components and releases to maximize the possible business value given the options and alternatives generated by the design team.
  • Assess organisational readiness to establish whether the organisation is ready to make effective use of the new solution.
  • Determine the transition requirements by defining the requirements for capabilities needed to transition from an existing solution to a new solution.
  • Validate the solution to ensure that it meets the business need and determine the most appropriate response to identified defects.
  • Evaluate solution performance through evaluating functioning solutions to understand the value they deliver and identify opportunities for improvement.
Stakeholder Management:
  • Establish, build, and maintain collaborative working relationships with relevant internal stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain positive and value-adding relationships with relevant external stakeholders.
  • Scan the environment to ensure a clear understanding of stakeholder needs.
  • Proactively interact with stakeholders to determine their needs and deliver on them accordingly.
  • Engage with both internal and external stakeholders to identify and evaluate performance barriers and success in order to continuously improve on the service delivery.
  • Work in collaboration with colleagues in the centre to ensure timeous delivery of the work.
  • Establish and maintain relations with recognised professional bodies within own professional sphere.
  • Manage service level agreements (SLAs).
People Management:
  • Manage own performance.
  • Participate in the BUxe2x80x99s transformation, culture, and diversity and employment equity initiatives.
  • Commit to continuous learning and advancing of onexe2x80x99s skills to remain abreast with industry trends.
  • Willing to work extra hours.
Financial Management and Operations Management:
  • Contribute to the compilation of centre budget and manage project expenditure related to functional area.
  • Ensure compliance to the organisationxe2x80x99s governance processes, policies and processes.
  • Manage supply chain processes within own functional area.
Other Responsibilities:
  • Perform and/or manage other projects, tasks and assignments delegated by the supervisor not stipulated in the role profile description as and when required.
Formal Education:
  • This position requires a minimum qualification of a 3-year National Diploma (NQF level 6) in Computer Science, Information Systems, Technology and Engineering or related field.
Or
  • TOGAF Certification or Business Analysis Certificate e.g., AAC, CBAP, CBDA, CCA, CCBA, CPOA or ECBA or any other related certification
