Job Summary
Luxury Private Members Club based in Umhlanga is looking for a Junior Sommelier / Mixologist / Beverage Manager to craft beverages, managing inventory and bar operations and providing exceptional customer service, with responsibilities including assisting with cocktail and wine service, maintaining bar cleanliness, taking orders, training staff and developing new drink concepts.
Key qualifications include strong knowledge of spirits, wines and mixology, excellent communication and customer service skills, attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Duties:
Beverage Preparation:
Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including classic cocktails and new creations, ensuring quality and presentation standards are met.
Customer Service:
Engage with guests to understand their preferences and make personalized recommendations for wines and cocktails that complement their meals or tastes.
Inventory & Bar Management:
Monitor and maintain inventory levels of bar supplies, glassware, and equipment, ensuring proper storage, rotation, and timely replenishment.
Cleanliness & Safety:
Ensure the bar area is always clean, organized, and compliant with health and safety regulations.
Staff Training:
Train and mentor junior staff on beverage knowledge, preparation techniques, and customer service best practices.
Menu Development:
Contribute to the creation and updating of beverage menus, suggesting wine and food pairings, and keeping up with industry trends.
Requirements:
Grade 12
Formal qualification
At least 5+ years' experience in a luxury 5* environment in a similar role
In-depth knowledge of spirits, wines, liqueurs, and cocktail techniques.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
Familiarity with bar equipment, point-of-sale systems, and potentially beverage management software.
Creativity, attention to detail, a positive attitude, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
