Initiate, conduct, coordinate and manage field experiments under the Soil and Water Science program focusing on irrigation of fruit trees, in compliance with set standards, client needs/specifications, within budget and on time.
Develop project proposals in line with strategic goals and research themes of the ARC.
Ensure that the allocated budgets are managed in a cost-effective and proactive manner, including timeous execution of financial administrative activities/tasks in compliance with the prescribed financial procedures and policies of the ARC.
Ensure that allocated personnel and students are mentored, trained, utilized and evaluated to achieve the targets of the program and ultimately the ARC.
Contribute to the status of the ARC through high quality research findings in compliance with expected scientific standards.
Actively identifies and pursues business opportunities and participates in the dissemination and marketing of information through national conferences and workshops.
Actively seeks to advance personal knowledge and expertise in monitoring tree water use and physiological response to water status.
Maintains adequate communications network with national scientists and funding organizations, as well as farmers and producers.
MSc degree in Agriculture majoring in Soil Science.
1 to 2 years' experience will be an added advantage.
Knowledge & experience in fruit irrigation.
Knowledge and skills in interpreting soil analysis results.
Project management, planning and organizing skills.
Knowledge in human capacity development and financial management.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
A valid driver's license.
