(X4) Junior Quantity Surveyor - Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I)



Location:

On-site operations (Rustenburg/North West) or equivalent industrial/mining site as directed by management.

Reporting To: Site Manager -

The Quantity Surveyor reports directly to the

Site Manager

and ensures full alignment with operational, contractual, and commercial control requirements.

Minimum Requirements



Diploma or Degree in

Quantity Surveying / Construction Management / Cost Engineering

. Sound knowledge of

E&I, structural, and mechanical costing principles

.(Strong understanding of construction, installation, and E&I project cycles) Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and costing software (

Candy, CCS, or equivalent).

Knowledge of

FIDIC / NEC / JBCC / GCC

forms of contract. Valid driver's license and medical fit for site conditions.

Purpose of the Role



The Quantity Surveyor (QS) - Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) is responsible for all

financial, contractual, and cost-control functions

on site.
The QS must ensure that every project activity is measured, costed, reported, and invoiced accurately to maintain profitability, transparency, and compliance with contractual terms.
The role demands

strict adherence to deadlines, documentation standards, and reporting accuracy

, ensuring that site operations maintain a

minimum average Gross Profit (GP) of 30% per quarter

.

Key Responsibilities



1. Cost Control & Financial Management



Monitor, control, and report all project costs, including labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractor expenses. Prepare and update

Cost-to-Completion

forecasts and ensure that all variances are reported to the Site Manager. Support the Site Manager in achieving and maintaining the

30% GP margin

across the project portfolio. Definition:GP = Project Revenue - Direct Costs (labour, material, subcontractor, plant). Principle:If costs increase, corresponding revenue adjustments must be formally approved to preserve margin. Monitoring:GP reviewed monthly and averaged quarterly. Identify cost overruns early and recommend corrective actions. Maintain strict financial discipline and ensure

zero undocumented or unapproved expenditure

.

2. Measurement, Valuation & Claims



Conduct accurate

quantity take-offs

for all E&I and associated boilermaking (racks, trays, supports, stands) activities. Prepare and submit monthly

progress valuations

, interim claims, and final accounts on time. Verify subcontractor progress claims and payment certificates against actual work done. Track and reconcile

materials on-site vs. invoiced quantities

. Support preparation and submission of

BGQS packs

, ensuring that all data is auditable, summarized, and submitted with transmittal proof.

3. Contract Administration



Maintain full understanding of

contract scope, terms, and conditions

. Ensure that all variations, change orders, and instructions are properly documented, priced, and approved before execution. Maintain a complete

variation register

and ensure alignment with both client and internal cost control. Prohibit any informal or verbal agreements related to cost or scope. Attend all

contractual and commercial meetings

required by the client/end-user or management.

4. Reporting & Documentation



Submit all commercial, cost, and forecast reports

accurately and on time

. Maintain daily and weekly cost records for materials, manpower, and equipment. Assist Site Manager with

monthly cost and GP reports

, ensuring financial transparency and traceability. Report immediately to the Site Manager on any deviation from cost, revenue, or schedule forecasts. Maintain proper filing of all costs, claim, and variation documentation for audit purposes.

5. Quality & Compliance



Ensure that all commercial documents meet company and client quality requirements. Verify that all subcontractors adhere to

SHEQ, commercial, and contractual standards

. Assist in ensuring all cost documentation aligns with

approved project drawings, specifications, and standards

. Actively participate in internal audits and implement corrective actions where required.

6. Coordination & Meetings



Work closely with the

Site Manager

, Supervisors, and Planners to align cost and production data. Liaise with

Procurement

to verify pricing, delivery schedules, and materials reconciliation. Attend all

client, coordination, and commercial meetings

as required by the end user or Site Manager. Ensure

meeting minutes and commercial actions

are tracked, recorded, and completed.

7. Teamwork & Site Presence



Support the Site Manager and team by ensuring all data used for decision-making is current, verified, and accurate. Ensure personal attendance at site by 07:00 daily for toolbox briefing and remain on-site during operational hours.

Verify that all teams are performing work by 07:45 (morning) and 12:45 (after lunch)

through coordination with supervisors and timekeeping records.
