Job Purpose
Support the laboratory team in conducting routine chemical and microbiological tests, maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with quality standards. This role is ideal for recent graduates or students completing Work Integrated Learning as part of their studies.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Analysis & Support

• Assist with routine chemical and microbiological testing using standard methods.
• Prepare and verify standard solutions under supervision.
• Support in-process production testing and reporting.
• Ensure proper storage and labeling of chemicals.

Equipment Maintenance

• Help with calibration and basic maintenance of lab equipment.
• Record equipment checks and report any issues to senior staff.

Quality & Compliance

• Follow procedures aligned with Quality Management Systems (QMS) and SANS 17025 standards.
• Maintain accurate records of tests and results.
• Participate in internal audits and quality checks when required.

Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement

• Assist in identifying and reporting discrepancies in test results.
• Contribute to team discussions on quality improvements.

Stock & Supplies

• Monitor stock levels of lab consumables and communicate needs to the Lab Manager.
• Ensure lab is well-stocked for daily operations.

Health, Safety & Housekeeping

• Maintain a clean and hygienic work environment.
• Follow company and statutory safety procedures.
• Practice good personal hygiene and lab safety protocols.

Requirements
Education:

• Currently studying or recently completed a Diploma or BSc in Microbiology, Food Technology, Biotechnology, or a related field.
• Work Integrated Learning candidates welcome.

Skills & Attributes:

• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
• Good communication and record-keeping skills
• Attention to detail and a logical approach to tasks
• Willingness to learn and take initiative
• Ability to work in a team and follow instructions

Other:

• Own transport preferred
• Flexibility to work shifts or extended hours if needed
