Junior Marketer

Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa

Job Description

Who we are and who we're looking for
Yuppiechef is South Africa's premier kitchen and homeware store. Based in Westlake, Cape Town, with 23 retail stores across South Africa, we see ourselves as helping people find more moments of joy in their homes -- through products that make daily life more comfortable, more innovative and more beautiful. And we do it through our omnichannel shopping experience, providing our world-class service to our customers both in our stores and online.
The online part of that omnichannel experience is in part dependent on our well-shopped newsletters, intended to show off the best of our range and relied on to drive income.
What your role looks like
We're looking for a Junior Marketer to own and drive the daily newsletter process within our team, while also managing other category-building marketing campaigns from start to finish, with the support of the Marketing Manager. Your focus will need to be on commercial analytics, customer insights, Merchandising team alignment, creative briefing, timely execution, accuracy, and clear communication and reporting.
Practically, this looks like:

  • Campaign management: Working with a Marketing Manager to identify opportunities for strategic campaigns, communicating customer insights and category objectives in creative briefs, and proactively managing timelines to ensure on-brand, error-free execution.
  • Newsletter co-ordination: Aligning with the Marketing Manager and Merch teams on themes/objectives, creating detailed product briefs, and managing the cross-team build and daily approval process.
  • Reporting and Learning: Reporting regularly on newsletter results, sharing insights and learnings, and proactively suggesting ways to improve and optimise campaigns.
Who you'll be working with
You will be working in close collaboration with the broader Marketing, Creative, and Merchandising teams (including Buying & Planning). You will also interact with the Tech, Finance, and Store Operations teams. We work hard, communicate openly, move on ideas quickly, and keep to deadlines.
Who you are
Besides having the necessary talent and experience for the role, we're looking for someone who is eager to learn, self-driven, and detail-oriented. You communicate well, work effectively both independently and in a team, and enjoy sharpening your marketing skills and learning about the wider business.
People would describe you as:
  • Analytical (in understanding and interpreting sales and performance trends)
  • Accurate (crucial for error-free communication)
  • Creative - and detail-oriented (in creating inspiring, clear briefs)
  • Proactive (in identifying process improvements)
  • Disciplined (in managing timelines)
  • Communicative (in providing clear briefs, sharing learnings and building strong, empathetic relationships)
What experience and skills you need for the role
  • Qualifications:
  • Required: a Marketing-related tertiary qualification
  • Experience:
  • Required: 2-3 years' experience in a similar role
  • Briefing and assessment of creative campaigns
  • Familiarity with marketing metrics and reporting analytics
  • Retail understanding: ecommerce and newsletter familiarity
  • Beneficial knowledge: Google Analytics, omnichannel retail
  • Personal skills:
  • Excellent verbal and written skills (English)
  • An ability to manage your own time and deliverables
  • Resilient to changes in workload and shifting priorities
  • Comfortable adapting to using multiple tech platforms
Environment, gear, pay and benefits
Environment:
  • We spend three days of the week working together in our office in Westlake, Cape Town, and have two work-from-home days
  • On the days you work from home or remotely, taking your Mac Airbook with you, and will need your own stable, high-speed internet connection and a suitable workspace setup
  • When you're in the office, you'll find...
