We have an exciting position for a Junior Hydrogeologist who will be responsible for implementing the hydrogeological functions in his/her respective areas to aid the operations with regards to water management, mine dewatering, stormwater monitoring, contractor management and ad hoc services.

Kumba Iron Ore

We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects - exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.



As a Junior Hydrogeologist, you will provide services as required and your responsibilities will include:

• Assist with the data collection, capturing, monitoring, dewatering infrastructure inspections and reporting.
• Drilling and testing contractor site supervision and management, SHEQ checks, logging of drill chips, drill site preparation, budget tracking and invoicing.
• Assist the hydrogeology and water management team to ensure enough and appropriate hydrogeological data is collected, captured and validated to conform to international best practices.
• Database management that include all relevant data.
• Mine water balance to be updated on a monthly basis.
• Assist with ad hoc hydrogeological and geotechnical tasks as required.
• Hydrogeological monitoring system.
• Implementation and monitoring of the dewatering strategy.

This role is in the Geology Department at a Band 7 reporting to the Specialist Hydrogeology and Water Management.

Qualifications

• B.Tech or BSc degree in Geosciences, or equivalent in a relevant technical discipline.
• Valid Driver's License.

Experience:

• At least 2 years working experience within the hydrogeology discipline.
