?? Support Engineer | Fourways (Johannesburg)| Onsite
Are you a technically strong IT Support Engineer with Layer 2 networking expertise and hands-on experience working for Fibre Network Operators (FNOs)? This is a first-line support role where you will be the first point of contact for network-related issues, ensuring swift troubleshooting, minimal downtime, and reliable fibre optic network performance.
? Non-Negotiables:

  • Proven experience with Fibre Optic Networks & Layer 2 protocols (VLANs, STP, MAC tables, managed switches)
  • Minimum 2 years' work experience in support or networking
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in first-line network support
  • Bilingual: English & Afrikaans

Technical Skills
  • Solid understanding of Layer 2 networking (VLANs, STP, MAC tables, L2 VPN)
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting managed switches
  • Knowledge of Ethernet, MPLS, and related protocols
  • Familiarity with network monitoring & diagnostic tools
  • Fibre optic cabling, splicing, and testing experience
Soft Skills
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical ability
  • Clear and professional communication (written and verbal)
  • Ability to work independently while knowing when to escalate issues
  • Customer-focused with resilience under pressure
?? Key Performance Areas (KPAs)
  • Provide first-line support for fibre optic and Layer 2 networking issues
  • Attend to ISP tickets and provide timely feedback to ISPs and end-users
  • Troubleshoot, document, and resolve network issues efficiently
  • Escalate unresolved cases to senior engineers where required
  • Maintain accurate documentation and troubleshooting guides
  • Perform routine network maintenance and assist with upgrades
