Job Purpose:
Responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of electrical installation, maintenance, and repair on board ships. This role requires extensive hands-on experience in marine electrical systems, a deep understanding of safety protocols, and a valid Wireman's License. The Supervisor be responsible for ensuring all projects are completed safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards.
Technical & Installation Duties:
Assemble, Install, and Maintain Systems: Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures using both hand and power tools.
Plan and Execute Layouts: Plan the layout of electrical wiring and equipment based on job specifications, blueprints, and local codes.
Troubleshooting and Repair: Diagnose and repair malfunctioning systems and components using test equipment to locate and correct problems.
On-Site & Workshop Operations: Perform electrical installations, assist with commissioning and fault-finding, and handle routine maintenance. When not on-site, assist with workshop tasks like wiring and testing equipment.
Safety and Compliance: Inspect electrical systems to identify hazards and defects, ensuring all work complies with safety regulations and codes. Advise management on equipment safety.
Technical Expertise: Apply specialized knowledge of marine electrical systems, including wiring, power generation, distribution panels, and control systems.Troubleshoot complex electrical issues and provide expert guidance to the team.
Quality Assurance: Conduct regular inspections of ongoing work to ensure compliance with project specifications, safety regulations, and industry standards (e.g., marine classification society rules).
Supervisory & Administrative Duties:
Team Leadership: Supervise and manage a team of installation technicians, delegating tasks and providing on-the-job training and guidance.
Project Management: Liaise with the Project Manager during installation and manufacturing, prepare construction work, and complete weekly, monthly, or other site reports.
Lead and supervise a team of electricians and technical staff on-site. Plan, schedule, and delegate tasks to ensure project milestones are met.
Administrative Tasks: Perform business management duties, including maintaining records, preparing reports, and ordering supplies.
Reporting and Documentation: Document operational activities and write detailed reports for site-based work.
Logistics & Support: Provide assistance during emergencies by operating floodlights and generators and assist with Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs).
Training & Development:
Mentor junior electricians and apprentices, providing them with guidance and training to enhance their skills and knowledge.
To undertake professional development activities to maintain and extent competence.
Undertake Specific Client Training as required to fulfil role.
