The IS Team Leader is responsible for leading the operation, maintenance, and performance optimization of IS (Individual Section) machines at the hot end of a glass packaging manufacturing environment. This role ensures efficient machine operation, product quality, and minimal downtime while coordinating with forming operators, maintenance teams, and engineering staff. The team leader also supports training, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives to meet production goals.
Key Performance Areas:
Operational Oversight
Supervise daily operations of IS machines and forming sections to ensure efficient and safe production of glass packaging.
Monitor machine parameters and ensure proper forming cycle settings (e.g., blow and blow, press and blow, NNPB, NTD).
Lead job changes, mold changes, and setup activities in coordination with forming and maintenance teams.
Team Leadership
Manage and guide a team of IS Fitters, and hot end personnel.
Assign tasks, monitor performance, and ensure adherence to production targets and quality standards.
Provide on-the-job training for new team members and ensure team compliance with safety procedures.
Manage all hot-end maintenance activities
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance of IS machines to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.
Troubleshoot machine faults and forming issues
Ensure proper lubrication, alignment, and inspection of IS machine components.
Quality & Process Control
Collaborate with Quality and Cold End teams to address defects, bottle quality issues, and dimensional control.
Monitor forming defects (e.g., checks, seams, blisters) and implement corrective actions.
Maintain records of process changes, job setups, and machine performance.
Continuous Improvement
Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement projects focused on cycle time, yield, and efficiency.
Propose and implement process improvements or equipment upgrades.
Support lean manufacturing and 5S practices in the forming area.
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Diploma or technical qualification in Mechanical engineering
5+ years of hands-on experience with IS machine maintenance, repairs and operations
Previous leadership or supervisory experience is highly preferred.
Lean six sigma is advantageous
Technical Skills
Deep understanding of IS machine functions, mechanisms, and forming process types (Blow & Blow, Press & Blow, NNPB).
Ability to read and interpret mechanical, hydraulic and Pneumatic drawings, forming diagrams, and production schedules.
Basic knowledge of PLC-based controls and forming line sensors
