Role Purpose

Play a key role in supporting the investment decision-making process within the discretionary fund management (DFM) team. The primary purpose of the role is to conduct both quantitative and qualitative analysis across a range of investment opportunities, model portfolios, and fund of funds structures. The analyst will also contribute to client portfolio analysis, helping to ensure alignment with investment objectives, risk parameters, and market conditions.

Requirements

Investment-related degree.
Good progress in post-decree studies (eg, actuarial, CFA, CA (SA) will be an advantage.
1 year investment-related experience (discretionary fund management exposure advantageous).
Strong excel skills, R/Python knowledge and experience in investment-related tools (Morningstar, Barra) would be an advantage.

Duties & Responsibilities

Keep abreast of the external environment in which the segment operates.
Complete competitor analysis to assess the strengths and weaknesses of current and potential competitors.
Analyse investment portfolios and financial instruments based on the outcomes and requirements of the mandate and business requirements. Analysis will cover both model portfolios and fund of funds in the environment.
Provide research, analysis and insight to recommend approaches on the construction and management of portfolios.
Using ongoing research make recommendations regarding the appropriate improvements on solutions to ensure market dynamics are considered and effectively applied.
Ensure that the portfolio management and risk management processes are applied.
Foster effective working relationships and collaborate within the CoE, portfolio managers, segments and external stakeholders in order to identify opportunities for investments.
Monitor measure, attribute and report on the performance of solutions to ensure the product is managed relative to the outcome defined.
Assist with the analysis and explanation of performance variances.
Build broad base financial models to support investment decision making and determine potential financial consequences of investment decisions.
Provide input into the risk identification processes and communicate recommendations in the appropriate forum.
Identify and develop independent research techniques to enhance research output.
Engage with key internal to identify changing client needs and make recommendations to align service offering with client needs.
Manage a client service excellence culture which builds enduring relationships and allows team to provide exceptional client service.
Deliver on agreed deliverables made with clients and stakeholders in order to ensure that client expectations are managed.
Conducts research at the direction of senior analysts or Portfolio Managers with guidance on more complex matters.
Participate in and positively influence and change initiatives across teams within the business.
Continuously develop your expertise in terms of relevant professional, technical, industry, and legislative knowledge.
Contribute to continuous innovation through the identification, development, sharing and implementation of new ideas.
