Investment Analyst - Cape TownOverview:The Investment Analyst will be required to analyze the economic drivers of agricultural property performance, including forecasting and trend analyses and assessing financial opportunity, be it related to a present or potential agricultural property investment. Under the guidance of experienced team members, the Investment Analyst will be responsible for investment analyses, preparing investment proposals to the Investment Committee and assisting in transaction execution.Responsibilities:SPV Financial Modelling and Analyses:Build and maintain financial modelsConsolidate information from other different sources and to prepare annual budgets and updated forecasts throughout the yearInteract with farmers/operators, lenders, government agencies and other financial advisors and as needed, perform all necessary modelling sensitivities to include changes to capital structure, biological asset portfolio and potential Mergers and AcquisitionsMonitor SPVs by assisting with registering of water rights, sub-leases post-acquisition, legal contracting, further development costs post-acquisition etc.Financing Structures:Build the Discounted Cash Flow model of the SPVs by obtaining production forecasts, production costs and pricing from the operator and validating these assumptions to industry standardsReassess the WACC assumptions and other valuation assumptions in determining the DCF valuationWork closely with operators/tenants and sellers to create financing structures addressing the needs and requirements of all stakeholdersDevelop Term Sheets and Risk Registers and maintain common understanding among the parties involvedAlong with Senior Management, serve as internal lead for all investments by preparing materials, coordinating meetings, answering operator requests, overseeing due diligence sessions, preparing presentations, drafting of investment proposals and updatesAcquisitions:As a member of the Acquisition team, evaluate the accretion/dilution of potential acquisitions or divestitures and prepare materials for acquisition team and Senior Management TeamParticipate in internal meetings with the Acquisition and Senior Management teams to discuss evaluations, deal structuring or termination, bid alternatives, purchase/sale agreementsCoordinate with Operations and CFO to determine appropriate operating and financing assumptionsParticipate in data rooms and acquisition conferencesPortfolio Analysis:Build the portfolio analysis for SPVs that you are responsible forTasks include annual financial information of the Propco, Opco, updated IRR, production estimatesAssist Investor Relations with industry presentationsAssist other departments (Accounting, Operations) with corporate model outputs and presentations as neededRequirements:Degree in Accounting or Investment Finance (with strong academic credentials)CFA or CA qualification preferred5 -7 years relevant experience in Investment Banking, Private Equity, Management Consulting or equivalent work experience in Finance/AccountingExperience in Real Estate investment or Agricultural Finance in a banking environment will be very beneficialRequired Skills/Competencies/Attributes/Knowledge:Advanced Excel SkillsProficient in an array of software applicationsExceptional quantitative and writing skillsPassionate about investments with a strong commercial focusExcellent company evaluation and private equity valuation skillsAbility to apply skills creatively to diverse investment opportunitiesAttention to detail with the ability to manage workload proactivelyExceptional numerical reasoning skills (demonstrable)ConfidenceDeterminationSelf-motivationTime managementAbility to work effectively under pressureAnalytical skillsTeamworking skillsProblem-solving skillsCommunication skills (verbal and written)
