Job SummaryA leading South African refinery, focused on adding value to locally sourced precious metals, has a vacancy for an experienced Inventory Controller-Accountant. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining inventory levels of high-value metals, ensuring accurate stock tracking, conducting audits, and managing import/export documentation. This role also involves overseeing the receipt and dispatch team, supporting compliance with regulatory and security standards, and driving improvements in inventory control processes. A CIMA qualification is essential, along with proven experience in accounting or stock control - preferably within the precious metals industry. Strong financial acumen, knowledge of metal accounting principles, experience with ERP and warehouse management systems (WMS), and familiarity with supply chain and logistics processes for regulated or high-value materials are key requirements.Requirements:

  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification in Accounting, Financial or Commercial
  • CIMA preferred not a CA
  • Own transport
  • Proven experience as an Accountant / Inventory Controller or in a similar role, preferably with
  • Experience handling precious metals or high-value inventory.
  • Proven track record in the development and implementation of accounting/stock control systems
  • Experience with ERP systems
  • Experience with import/export documentation and compliance.
  • Experience managing a receipt and dispatch team and metal controllers
  • Own vehicle and valid Driver's License.
Duties:
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels of precious metals to ensure optimal stock levels.
  • Maintain accurate records of all inventory transactions in the inventory management system.
  • Conduct regular counts and full inventory audits to reconcile stock discrepancies and ensure compliance with security protocols.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to forecast future inventory needs.
  • Identify and implement improvements in inventory control processes, with a focus on safeguarding and traceability of precious metals.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of inventory status and audit results.
  • Coordinate the warehouses to optimize controlled movement of goods.
  • Support metal movement in and out of the vault and tracking metal movements into and out of the lab.
  • Manage and prepare import/export documentation for international shipments, ensuring compliance with relevant customs regulations.
  • Track and reconcile internal departmental transactions related to the physical and system movement of metal.
  • Review the completeness of Stock Transfer Tickets (STT) captured.
  • Communicate and escalate discrepancies and unavailability of stock on the ERP system to the Metal Office Manager.
  • Coordinate, control, and balance stock from and into the vault.
  • Assist with daily vault counts and internal metal audits, providing required documentation.
  • Update daily metal (Au, Ag, PGM) balances on Pastel Evolution.
  • Verify stock movements on ARC and compare with Pastel Evolution stock.
  • Report stock movement discrepancies for each department against Pastel Evolution.
  • Assist with receipt of high-value material as needed.
  • Reconcile daily internal departmental precious metal movements (Gold Balance).
  • Reconcile daily activities and transactions in the Metal Office and support continuous improvement to reduce variances and losses.
  • Support the Senior Metal Accountant in developing real-time daily reporting of inventory levels, metal flows, and variances within Power BI.
  • Facilitate communication to Finance for optimized GRV and supplier payment.
