Job Description


Ecowize is looking for an Internal Auditor to join the SHEQ team in Cape Town. The Internal Auditor will be responsible for Continuous Improvement, in developing, implementing, and executing Ecowize Food Safety, Health and safety, quality and environmental management systems.The successful incumbent will also support strategic priorities and business operations to assist Area Managers and Site Managers with any changes and training requirements where risks are identified or where quality standards are not met.High-Level Objectives: * Compliance Focus - To ensure that all regulatory measures are consistently applied.

  • Customer Focus - Regular, meaningful interactions to drive an inclusive partnership with the Customers SHEQ department. Engage actively with key stakeholders to ensure they understand and actively support the process changes and desired cultural shifts. Provide support and expertise to line management
  • People Focus - Empowering, developing and motivating teams and individuals to perform at their best. Ensure continuous development for yourself and team. Ensure the SHEQ team adequately supports the business to achieve its Health and Safety, Environment and Quality objectives.
  • OHS & Food Safety Focus - Coordinating and supervising the Ecowize quality management systems to ensure that all sites take the necessary actions taken to eliminate personal safety and food safety risks.
  • Innovation Focus - Lead the development of continuous improvement systems and practices (including training, coaching, experiential opportunities and projects).
Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure that all Food Safety requirements and Occupational Health and Safety regulations are complied with by completing an Internal Audit bi-annually or when required.
  • Keep up to date with relevant safety, health and environment legislation and make continuous recommendations to SHEQ management.
  • Meet with customer Safety Officer and review Customer H&S Meeting minutes and ensure Ecowize action plans implemented.
  • Lead monthly safety meetings with Area Managers and Site Managers. Address any gaps and close out non-conformances.
  • Attend Monthly National SHEQ Meeting
  • Attend Quarterly Food Safety Team Meetings
  • Actively listening to the customers needs and exceeding expectations on delivery by:
  • Managing current processes and give guidance to Area Manager.
  • Reporting progress of new projects and changes to any systems.
  • Co-ordinating maintenance of the Site Food Safety Management System.
  • Co-ordinating maintenance of the Site Safetywize System.
  • Reviewing Clients Risk Assessment.
  • Visiting sites to assess work for compliance to specifications.
  • Manage auditing processes
  • Co-ordinate and participate in the compilation of the Site Base Line Risk Assessment on new sites if and when required and identify risk mitigation measures in conjunction with operations.
  • Co-ordinate annual revision of Workplace Risk Assessments
  • Verify Food Safety & SHE corrective and preventive actions, as well as improvement proposals, and action plans.
  • Co-ordinate & close non-conformances once verified that corrective action has been effective.
  • Investigate reportable injuries
  • Co-ordinate closure of DoEL Annexure 1 investigations.
  • Set individual development goals with line manager and take responsibility and accountability for all performance activities.
  • Ensure Area Manager and Site Managers are supported to make informed decisions
  • Coach and mentor Site Managers where specific development areas are identified by a Line Manager.
  • Identify Trainers and ensure trainers are able and equipped to drive training initiatives
  • Initiate / recommend required disciplinary process and inform the SHEQ Manager of all serious transgressions
  • Track deliverables (Site Specific KPIs) by trends and non-conformances
  • Drive quality assurance
  • Incident investigation assistance.
  • Encourage team to create alternative solutions.
  • Take ownership of difficult situations and drive constructive conversations to ensure a feasible outcome
  • Become the custodian of Ecowize Food Safety Management System
  • Identify all needs/risks through regular internal auditing and risk assessments to assist with the development of a corrective and preventative action plan.
  • Identify problems through analysis of Micro Trends and Non-conformances and assist site to develop a corrective action.
  • Ensure team is aware of potential food safety risks on site and give guidance on ways to resolve potential risks.
  • Ensure action plans for NCRs are delivered within required timeframe
  • Ensure training requirements are met to best drive corrective actions to Site Managers to prevent a site from becoming a RED site.
  • Regularly visit sites to ensure goals are met.
  • Sharing innovative ideas within the team and senior management
  • Identify outsourced services that can be done inhouse across divisions.
  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Degree/ National Diploma or equivalent in Food, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Environmental studies/ Quality qualification (Advantageous)
  • Valid Drivers Licence and OWN transportation
  • Willing to travel and work shifts
  • 2-3 years relevant work experience (essential)
  • SAMTRAC or equivalent training (Advantageous)
  • Knowledge of the FMCG, food production industry and / or cleaning industry, Auditing, OHS and Environment
  • At least 1 year experience in Project Management (Advantageous)
  • Some experience working on iLeader
  • Total Quality Management system knowledge advantageous

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Applications
  • Strong leadership qualities with the ability to motivate and guide team members.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Skilled in managing multiple tasks efficiently in a dynamic environment.
  • Must be comfortable with the Ecowize culture and values.
