Job Summary The Wholesale Credit Risk VP role is responsible for assurance of Wholesale Credit Risk across Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB), Relationship Banking (RB), and Absa Regional Operations (ARO).



The position is a key role given the complexity of the coverage in respect of the internal rating systems and the bankxe2x80x99s credit risk management practices.

Responsibilities include:

  • Taking ownership and initiative, to negotiate, influence and build consensus and successfully navigate audit delivery within timelines and quality criteria. Leading internal audit project teams, working closely with peer VPs, define audit scopes and oversee audit testing, including drafting internal audit findings and prepare draft reports for discussion with senior management. This includes a strong acumen regarding auditing methods and industry practices for Wholesale Credit Risk.
  • The position is a technical Credit Risk specialist as well as SME role in Internal Audit and is required to provide assurance on:
  • Business Unit Credit Risk Functions: The application and the effectiveness of the wholesale credit risk management practices, methodologies and systems (e.g. primary risk, credit concentration risk, mandates and scale, credit portfolio management, credit risk strategy, portfolio segmentation, assessment and aggregation, impairment of financial assets, Country and Sovereign Risk, model use, and distressed restructures/forbearance).
  • Regulatory Framework: The provisions of the regulatory framework and in particular the bankxe2x80x99s system for identifying and measuring its regulatory capital and assessing the adequacy of its capital resources in relation to the bankxe2x80x99s credit risk exposures and established minimum ratios as well as Pillar 3 disclosures.
  • Sustainability Risk: Assessment methodologies and processes used across CIB, RB, and ARO for Environmental, Social, and Governance risks as part of the credit sanctioning process.
  • Line management responsibilities with an adept experience in performance and talent management. Develop a high performing team by embedding formal performance development and coaching. Encourage frequent knowledge sharing between team members.


Education and Experience Required:
  • At least a Bachelor degree in statistics, econometrics, mathematics, actuarial science or other quantitative fields. Higher degree will be an advantage.
  • Minimum 5 - 10 years of relevant experience in credit risk modelling, risk management and assurance. Exposure to internal/external audit will be an advantage.
  • Previous exposure to Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) is an advantage.

Bachelor`s Degrees and Advanced Diplomas: Business, Commerce and Management Studies (Required)
