eMedia, in proud partnership with MICT SETA (Media, Information and Communication Technologies Sector Education and Training Authority), is offering a 12-month Internship Programme for the year 2025/2026. The Intern will be hosted at e.tv Johannesburg in the position of Research Intern.

About the Job

The individual in this role is required to assist Journalists in researching and pitching story ideas on a regular basis, this includes acquiring all supporting documents and proof before stories are presented. The individual in the role would also be required to assist in setting up and conducting his/her own interviews and plan the creative look and feel for each story.

Roles and Responsibilities

Research

+ Assisting Journalists in researching and pitching investigative story ideas on a continuous basis.
+ Researching stories and handling this over to the external producers by means of a pitch document, this will include relative research, supporting/proof documents and contact details.
+ Planning visual treatment for stories and setting up shoots to this effect.
+ Assisting Journalists in Ensuring a full filming schedule.
+ Daily managing of The Devi Show email addresses.

Content Collation

+ Assisting Journalists in collating all content related to a story (once assigned, after a commissioning process), this will include relevant undercover, setting up interviews, supporting/proof documents, writing questions, shooting interviews and overlay with cameraman and working with an editor and final mix.
+ Collating all relevant documentation, including transcriptions and handover documents to the script writing department.

Ad-Hoc

+ Contributing creatively to week editorials with the sole purpose of landing entertaining and informative television.
+ Transcribing interviews and delivering to the relevant producers.
+ Filming undercover interviews.
+ Assisting in studio as and when required.
+ Attending legal viewings.

Communication

Liaising daily with the Journalists, Managing Editor and Executive Producer on new story ideas as well as the progress of current stories.

Requirements

Qualifications:

National Senior Certificate (NQF Level 4) - Essential Diploma in Journalism (NQF Level 6) - Essential

Competencies:

Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) Intermediate English language proficiency Strong attention to detail and accuracy, ensuring thorough and careful completion of tasks Ability to monitor and follow up on delegated assignments and projects effectively Commitment to continuous learning by actively seeking and applying new knowledge and skills Effective participation in meetings, considering the needs and contributions of others Good planning and organising skills to manage tasks and ensure efficient work completion

Additional Requirements:

Must be a South African citizen Must be under the age of 35 * Candidates who have previously participated or are currently engaged in a SETA-funded internship are not eligible.
