Interior Designer Coordinator - Remote Position based in Cape Town - International Design CompanyReporting to: Studio Manager
Close Coordination with: Design Team, Production Team, and Design Project Manager
Role Summary:
The Interior Design Coordinator focuses on design execution and technical detailing, ensuring that design concepts are properly developed into fully coordinated documentation packages. They are primarily responsible for overseeing the execution of both Schematic Design and Detailed Design packages, ensuring accuracy and alignment with the design intent.
This role involves coordinating design work between the interior design team, CAD drafters, and visualizers, ensuring that all design elements are accurately documented and integrated. Additionally, the Interior Design Coordinator manages technical documentation, design details, and material selections, maintaining clarity and precision throughout the process.
A key responsibility is ensuring that designs adhere to company standards and comply with local regulations and industry requirements. The Interior Design Coordinator ensures that designs are properly aligned with project specifications and fully prepared for implementation. This includes working closely with senior designers, suppliers, and consultants to maintain design integrity throughout the execution process.Primary Responsibilities:
Technical Design Documentation & Detailing

  • Assist the design team in developing technical design documentation, ensuring accuracy and feasibility with the project's operational needs.
  • Translate conceptual design into design documentations, focusing on precision and compliance.
  • Coordinate and review the production of detailed technical drawings for IFC (Issued for Construction) documentation.
  • Ensure that all design elements are accurately documented according to the design intent.
  • Review and manage the preparation of technical documentation to meet the companyxe2x80x99s standards.
  • Coordinate and check the specifications and material sample boards created by the Junior ID team, into design documentation.
Design Execution & Coordination
  • Coordinate interior design packages with external design disciplines (e.g., architects, engineers, lighting designers) to ensure alignment.
  • Ensure material selections align with design concepts and project requirements.
  • Conduct site visits and surveys to document existing conditions for design validation.
  • Collaborate with senior designers to refine and finalize design details.
  • Liaise with consultants, suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure proper alignment with design objectives.

Studio Support & Team Collaboration
  • Support to the senior design team by organizing and managing project documentation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve design-related issues during the project's development.
  • Ensure that all technical and design information is well-structured and readily available to the team.
  • Prepare reports and documentation for design review meetings, ensuring a seamless workflow within the studio.
  • Review and inspect final design packages to ensure they meet required standards and specifications.
  • Ensure the design remains consistent with the initial vision and address any deviations promptly.
  • Identify opportunities to improve internal processes for design coordination and execution.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, design tools, and technologies to enhance design efficiency and quality.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Architecture, Fine Arts, or a related field (essential).
Experience:
  • 3-5 years of experience in interior design documentation, detailing, and technical execution.
Skills & Competencies:
  • Proficiency in hand sketching and illustration.
  • Proficiency in technical design software, including:
o AutoCAD (for detailed design and IFC documentation).
o SketchUp & Layout (for 3D modelling and spatial planning).
o Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) (for visual presentations).
  • Strong understanding of technical details, drawing development and construction methods.
  • Excellent technical knowledge of construction documentation, shop drawings, and design detailing.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, ensuring clear documentation across teams.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive, with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
