The Superintendent is accountable for ensuring the efficient operation of the Intake facility through effective planning and optimal utilisation of resources, while also overseeing overall safety. This role involves coordinating and supervising all aspects of the Intake processes, resource allocation per shift, and the safe conduct of employees during their shifts. All duties, responsibilities and activities are aligned with world-class manufacturing principles, practices and philosophy. Assisting management with stock control, unidentified variances (UVs), and sin bins for the broader Bagging & Intake Department. Provide support to, and oversee, the Bagging Department during the absence of the Bagging Superintendent.
Qualifications
Matric (Maths and Science)
B. Tech (Chemical engineering) or B.Sc. Engineering (Chemical) or
Lean six Sigma - Black Belt will be an advantage
Experience
5 - 10 years' experience in similar role in a Manufacturing environment
Duties
Safety:
Investigate all incidents (safety & environment)
Perform process safety audits
Tracking and liaising with stakeholders on mitigating actions from investigations
Closing external and internal findings
Update task-based risk assessments
Update baseline risk assessments

Coach new employees on plant
OHSA 8.2(i) appointment
Coach existing employees on plant
Manage leading and lagging indicators with team leaders
Writing and developing procedures for operations
Quality:
Develop, train and mentor on quality control procedures
Develop SOPs and WIs (owner)
Co-ordinate training of employees minimising cost and business impact
Investigation poor quality product NCRs
Monitor and escalate raw material quality
Operational Cost control:
Monitor and control line budgets (PPE, staff welfare, cleaning, overtime, etc.)
Report cost expense and mitigation measures to management
Continuous improvement on cost reduction
Working Capital:
Ensure we produce as per plan (minimising stock outs and excess production)
Investigate stock losses as per monthly recon report
Business Innovation:
Review losses and waste with multi-discipline team
Propose solutions to losses
Promote and participate in problem solving
Encourage an innovative team environment
Plant Efficiency:
Perform stock control (monitoring and planning)
Reconcile usage variances against the BOMs
Monitor and Challenges shutdown Planning
Ensure product delivered as per customer expectations:
Liaises with supply planning dept about the production demand (plan, sequence, expectations)
Escalate delays with supply chain (customers)
Perform standby function Promote employee engagement:
Lead task forces to assist in implementing world class baseline practices (TW, VM, 5S ext)
Leading and managing change in the plant
Contracting and EDD discussion with team leaders
Reviewing KPIs
Ensure production viewpoint considered within short- and long-term maintenance strategy:
Provide input on maintenance planning (equipment specific)
