The successful candidate will be responsible for managing site instrumentation teams, ensuring compliance with design specifications, industry standards, and HSE requirements during the full lifecycle of EC&I instrumentation works.
Key responsibilities and Duties
Supervise the installation, calibration, termination, and tubing of field instruments, control panels, junction boxes, and related devices in accordance with the project's Scope of Work, datasheets, loop drawings, and project specifications.
Review and interpret P&IDs (Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams), IO lists, cable schedules, wiring diagrams, and client-approved control philosophies.
Coordinate and monitor loop checks, functional testing, cold and hot commissioning, and support commissioning activities with client, QA/QC, and internal teams.
Plan and manage day-to-day tasks of technicians and subcontractors to meet project deadlines while ensuring compliance with labour regulations and PPE requirements.
Verify that all instrumentation work complies with SANS standards, OEM specifications, and construction drawings.
Lead on-site teams to execute tasks in line with Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and project timelines.
Maintain and submit daily site reports, redline mark-ups, material traceability records, and contribute to as-built and handover documentation consistent with contract quality deliverables.
Collaborate with QA/QC and engineering teams to address non-conformances, resolve technical site issues, ensure as-built accuracy, and support NCR close-out processes.
Monitor and enforce safety measures according to Astron Energy's Independent Contractor HSE requirements and Section 37(2) OHSA Agreement.
Ensure all subcontractors and workers operate in compliance with labour regulations and PPE requirements.
Attend toolbox talks, method statement reviews, and safety briefings, actively supporting the project's zero-harm objectives.
Skills Required:
Strong leadership, planning, and coordination skills
Ability to interpret technical drawings, manage installation quality, and resolve field-level issues effectively
Competent in construction reporting, redlining, and installation verification
Working knowledge of safety-critical practices and national wiring regulations
Inherent requirement of the job:
Valid Code 10 Drivers license advantageous
Willingness to work irregular hours (i.e. day, night, overtime, after hours, stand-by duties and weekends and attend to work related emergencies when required
Educational Background:
National Diploma or Trade Certification in Instrumentation or Electrical Engineering
Valid site safety and compliance training (Legal Liability, Permit to Work, HIRA, etc.)
Hazardous area awareness or CompEx training is an advantage
Experience/ Requirements
Minimum 5 years supervisory experience on instrumentation works in industrial construction projects
Proven ability to manage work teams in high-risk, regulated environments
Familiarity with MCCs, PLC interface signals, loop testing, and field device commissioning
