The role





We are looking to strengthen our rapidly growing business area focusing on Infrastructure and the JET by hiring a junior analyst to work with our dynamic research and consulting team.


This position is ideal for a recent graduate or early-career professional with a strong interest in infrastructure, energy, or public policy. The successful candidate will work closely with senior analysts and consultants, gaining hands-on experience in research, data analysis, and project work related to South Africa's infrastructure and energy transition.


Requirements




A Master's degree is preferable (or postgraduate with relevant experience) in economics, finance, public policy, engineering, or a related field. 1-3 years of experience (or equivalent academic exposure) in infrastructure, energy, policy research, finance, or consulting. Demonstrated understanding of South Africa's infrastructure and energy policy landscape, including the principles of the JET. Strong analytical and writing skills, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly. Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. A keen interest in the financing, policy and political economy dimensions of infrastructure and JET. Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment and manage multiple workstreams. Self-driven, curious, and eager to learn within a dynamic and high-performance team.

Key responsibilities




Support research and consulting projects focused on infrastructure, energy transition, and related public policy areas. Conduct ongoing analysis of infrastructure, energy, water and related policies, including regulation, procurement processes and funding models. Assist in tracking projects, conducting due diligence and preparing client insights across the infrastructure and JET spectrum. Analyse political economy dynamics, stakeholder relationships (including SOEs, financial institutions and government), and the flow of financing through the economy. Contribute to the development of creative financing solutions that support the JET. Draft high-quality research outputs such as policy briefs, client reports and presentations. Support the team with data collection, quantitative analysis, and Excel-based financial or policy modelling. Assist with client communication, presentations and research dissemination.
