Job Description


Our Client, a National Financial Services specialising in Pension and Provident Funds is seeking to URGENTLY appoint an Independent Chairperson of the Board for their Braamfontein Office.PLEASE NOTE:This is a 3-year term role.MAIN PURPOSE FOR THE ROLE:

  • To report directly into the Chief Executive Officer, Principal Officer, and indirectly into the wider management team.
  • To hold the Board and Executive Team to account for the Funds Mission and Vision.
  • To provide inclusive leadership to the Board of Trustees, ensuring that each trustee fulfils their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the Fund.
  • To support, and, where appropriate, challenge the Chief Executive Officer and ensure that the Board functions as a unit and works closely with the entire Executive of the Fund to achieve agreed objectives.
  • To act as an ambassador and the public face of the Fund in partnership with the Chief Executive Officer and the Principal Officer.
KEY COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Extensive experience of operating at a senior strategic leadership level within an organisation
  • Have a successful track record of achievement through their career.
  • Experience of Fund governance and working with or as part of a Board of Trustees
  • Must have chaired at least two (2) Boards.
  • Five-to-ten-years Retirement Fund Experience
  • Experience of external representation, delivering presentations and managing stakeholders
  • Significant experience of chairing meetings and events.
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of the Retirement Fund environment and current issues affecting it
  • Strong leadership skills, ability to motivate staff and trustees and bring people together.
  • Financial management expertise and a broad understanding of Fund finance and risk issues
  • Sound understanding of Fund governance issues.
  • Ability to demonstrate a strong and visible passion and commitment to the Fund, its strategic objectives and cause.
  • Possess personal gravitas to lead a significant national organisation with a preference for a previously disadvantaged person.
  • Ability to exhibit strong inter-personal and relationship building abilities and be comfortable in an ambassadorial role.
  • Ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy, with the ability to listen and engage effectively.
  • Have strong networking capabilities that can be utilised for the benefit of the Fund.
  • Ability to foster and promote a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to commit time to conduct the role well, including travel and attending events out of office hours.
