Job Description

As an Imports Controller, you will play a key role in managing end-to-end import logistics operations -ensuring accurate customs clearance, coordinating with key stakeholders, and delivering goods within set timeframes. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, detail-driven environment and understands the regulatory nuances of cross-border freight and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Review and verify accuracy of import documentation, including tariff codes and client data
Register shipments accurately in internal systems
Submit SARS entries and Cargo Dues within specified timeframes
Coordinate authority releases from relevant bodies (e.g. Port Health, Agriculture, State Vet)
Obtain and validate shipping line invoices against quotes
Release cargo timeously to avoid storage penalties
Arrange inland haulage to client-specified locations
Coordinate inspections and clearances as required
Approve supplier invoices and process
Generate and sign off on client invoicing drafts promptly
Maintain regular communication with clients and update them on shipment status
Liaise with depots, shipping lines, and freight forwarders
Manage ex-works shipments and ensure timely execution
Support finance team with import forecasting and cash flow planning
Collaborate with key account and pricing teams on margins and client performance insights
Requirements
Matric/Grade 12 (Essential)
Diploma in Shipping, Freight Forwarding, or Logistics (Advantageous)
3+ years experience in import logistics or freight forwarding
Strong knowledge of customs procedures, including Level 1 & 2 customs training
Familiarity with the Customs & Excise Act and the Tariff Book
High attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
Technically proficient with systems like Google Workspace and Excel
Ability to manage multiple stakeholders, internally and externally
Availability after hours and willingness to work overtime when required
