Position Summary
Babylonstoren is seeking an Imagineer Technology & Innovation Specialist to join our forward-thinking Engineering and IT team. This role is central to supporting the business's global digital infrastructure and immersive guest experiences. You'll maintain and develop state-of-the-art AV systems, including VR technologies used in exhibits such as our Roman Villa, Beezantium, Story of Gardening museum, The Story Emily and our Cornwall site. You will work across departments and international sister sites to deliver reliable, innovative digital solutions that reflect Babylonstoren's commitment to excellence and creativity.

Key Responsibilities
Maintain and troubleshoot digital and AV equipment, including projectors, speakers, VR headsets, digital displays, and audio guides.
Respond to technical issues or work orders raised by various departments and resolve them efficiently.
Provide first-line and advanced support across local and international locations (South Africa, UK, Italy, and Greece).
Conduct routine checks and preventative maintenance on all digital and AV equipment, especially in guest-facing areas.
Assist in planning and executing the deployment of new technologies, immersive systems, and interactive exhibits.
Support the design and integration of VR/AR experiences, projection mapping, and other experiential technologies.
Liaise with suppliers and vendors to procure or replace outdated or malfunctioning equipment.
Provide regular basic training to staff on the proper use of AV and VR systems.
Maintain clear records, inventories, and documentation of systems, procedures, and support logs.
Work closely with the Innovation and Engineering team to research, evaluate, and implement new advanced digital solutions.
Participate in prototyping and testing technologies that push the boundaries of visitor engagement and immersive storytelling.
Contribute to the development of scalable solutions to be implemented across our global network.
Skills and Qualifications
Education & Technical Expertise:
A Degree in Information Technology, Audio-Visual Technology, Electronic Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Digital Media, or a related field
Coding experience, especially in Virtual Reality environments
Professional certifications (e.g., AVIXA CTS, CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified, Crestron, Barco) are advantageous
3-5 years' experience with AV/VR systems, multimedia infrastructure, or digital exhibit support
Technical Skills:
Familiarity with a wide range of digital hardware: projectors, touchscreens, sound systems, VR headsets
Comfortable with digital architecture, networked AV systems, and interactive display technologies
Able to diagnose, test, and maintain complex hardware/software setups
Soft Skills:
Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail
Excellent verbal and written communication in Afrikaans and English
Self-motivated, reliable, and capable of working independently or within a small team
Able to handle multiple projects and support across different time zones
Willingness to travel internationally to support projects and equipment
An understanding of guest experience with a focus on excellence

Primary location: Babylonstoren (South Africa), with international travel to UK, Italy, and Greece
