HSE Specialist

to join our Global Supply organization, providing local HSE support to all Valmet sites and Business Lines in South Africa, with a particular focus on our Flow Control and Automation divisions.


You will be based in

Johannesburg

, with frequent travel--up to 50% of your working time--to our other locations (such as Durban) and to customer sites, particularly during major shutdown periods. Shutdowns in South Africa can last up to two consecutive months, and your presence on site during these key periods will be essential.

Main Responsibilities

Support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of HSE systems across all South African Valmet sites. Promote a strong safety culture by coaching, influencing and engaging employees and managers. Conduct site HSE audits, inspections, risk assessments and incident investigations. Lead HSE support during customer shutdowns, ensuring compliance and safe execution of work. Provide HSE training and awareness sessions to employees and contractors. Prepare local HSE reports, documentation and action plans. Assist in contractor evaluation and compliance monitoring. Contribute to quality and HSE requirements during bids and customer qualification processes. Ensure alignment with relevant ISO standards (ISO 14001, 45001, 9001). Proactively evaluate and mitigate operational risks to safeguard people and environment.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in HSE or a related field. At least 5 years of experience in a similar HSE role. Experience in heavy industry environments is preferred; exposure to oil & gas, mining, or pulp & paper sectors is an advantage. Strong communication, influencing and stakeholder-management skills. Ability to work independently in a multi-site, multicultural, matrix organization. Fluent English (written and spoken). Willingness and ability to travel frequently.
