The Koruson Cluster is one of the flagship wind projects, comprising multiple 140 MW wind farms and a 400 kV Main Transmission Substation, developed under South Africa's REIPPPP program.
The Role
The HSE Lead will be responsible for leading and coordinating all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) functions across the Koruson Cluster. This role ensures strict compliance with HSE standards, enforcement of site safety protocols, contractor management, and oversight of risk and incident management systems during the operations and maintenance phase.
Key Responsibilities
Enforce compliance with OHS Act, approved HSE plans, and risk management systems
Conduct site inspections, audits, and incident investigations
Manage Permit-to-Work (PTW) and LOTO systems for all works
Lead development and review of risk assessments and site HSE registers
Supervise contractor HSE performance and chair weekly/monthly HSE meetings
Oversee the implementation of PPE issuance, emergency response, and training programs
Ensure compliance with environmental obligations, EMPrs, and legal requirements
Support community and landowner engagement on HSE matters
Report weekly and monthly HSE statistics to management and external stakeholders
Implement and manage digital safety systems such as SPHERA or similar tools
What You'll Need
Qualifications & Certifications (Required):
Registered with SACPCMP as HSE Manager or HSE Officer
GWO Working at Heights certification
First Aid Level 3, Firefighting, HIRA, and Legal Liability qualifications
Qualified snake handler
Valid driver's licence
Experience:
7+ years' HSE experience in renewable energy projects (construction or O&M)
Strong knowledge of OHS Act, labour law, permitting, PTW, and LOTO systems
Proven track record managing contractor compliance and site HSE performance
Skills & Attributes:
Strong communication and negotiation skills
Fluent in English (another local language advantageous)
Excellent reporting, analytical, and computer literacy (MS Office)
Pragmatic, proactive, detail-oriented, and fair in enforcing HSE policies
Willingness to be site-based full-time and medically fit
